In principle, there is great potential for citizen
scientists – or the wider public – to validate what
satellites observe or to put those images to use.
In practice, the implementation of such ideas is
faced by social, scientific, technical and economic
challenges. This team will explore these
challenges in order to develop fundable ideas.

• Standards, interoperability and integration stimulate new ways to
use data
• The potential of the open data allows us to create new visualisations and
applications
• Standards are really key to combining CS data, EO data and other data sources
web-based servers, smartphones, apps, GIS software
• Obstacles and pathways to Citizen Science participation and data
uptake include :
• Concerns about data quality
• Need for attractive interfaces
• Need to show use of citizens’ input

Team 8 Focus 2 Uta Wehn u.wehn@un-ihe.org In principle, there is great potential for citizen scientists – or the wider public – to validate what satellites observe or to put those images to use. In practice, the implementation of such ideas is faced by social, scientific, technical and economic challenges. This team will explore these challenges in order to develop fundable ideas.
