(b) Calculate the amount of heat that would be released during an acid-base neutralization
reaction neu like the one described in the response regulations. 60 (e) Calculate the number of
moles of H' and OH initially present and the number of moles of H,Co produced in the response
regulation reaction. (d) Calculate ?? per mole of H2O produced in the response regulation
reaction. How does this value compare to the ?Hneut you calculated in Pre-Laboratory
Assignment 3? 2 5. Consider the temperature change, together with the volume and
concentration of the acid and base, noted in the HAZMAT team's response regulation
information. Predict how each of the following variations would affect the observed temperature
change. Explain your predictions. (a) using 100 mL. 1M hydrochloric acid and 100 mL 1M
sodium hydroxide (b) using 50 mL 2M hydrochloric acid and 50 mL 2M sodium hydroxide 158
Solution
solution:
5.
if we are adding base to acids then
a) temperature increases continuosly and reaches maximum at last drop. i.e when total base is
added.
b) same as above temp increases continuosly and reaches maimum at last drop.
c) temp increases continuosly and reaches maximum when 25 ml sodium hydroxide is added.
From there temeperature goes on decreasing ( since there is no acid left for neutralisation).
d) temp increases continuosly and reaches maximum when 50 ml sodium hydroxide is added(
since 1 mole H2SO4 is neutralised by 2 mol NaOH). After that temp decreases gradually.
