A self-learned environmentalist. He joined the Save Lake Lanao Movement [SALLAM] in 1990 when the NPC Agus-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant was completed and being tested for commissioning. His involvement with SALLAM changed his outlook in life and became a lifetime advocate for the protection and conservation of Lake Lanao, one of the 17 ancient lakes of the world. His advocacy brought him to speak in various conferences, fora, trainings and seminars. Foremost are the First Asian Lakes Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Management (November 10 – 11, 2005) and the 13th World Lake Conference in Wuhan, China (November 1 – 5, 2009
