2. What is your chosen genre?
Crime/Drama
1. A Hybrid genre a few examples
of Crime/Drama movies include :
New Jack City , Safe , Dead
Presidents , Inception , Menace to
society
2.Mainly Based on film noir movies
that that emphasize cynical attitudes
which Roger Ebert said in his article
: A guide to Film Noir “A movie which
at no time misleads you into thinking there
is going to be a happy ending” in my
opinion it clearly shows the dynamics and
diffrent ypes of narrative we see in
Crime/Drama movies
3.Drama is a convention of
Crime movies as Peter
Brashaw from the Guardian
stated: “crime and transgression
are the stuff of drama and real life”
this reading shows crime movies
show the different types of drama
we see day to day
3. Narrative (ideology , Themes)Narrative
In Crime/Drama movies it often highlights the life of a criminal or group and they particularly show the criminal/group rise and fall with fall ultimately leading to d
Crime/Drama movies it shows the gang, bank robber, murderer or lawbreakers in personal power struggles with their daily surroundings and family or conflict w
law and order figures such as the police or a rival gang.
Narrative Structure
Crime/Drama movies usually follow the “Apparatus Film Theory”
“The film is created to illustrate different ideas, everything has meaning - from the camerawork to the editing”.
(Film Theory and Language , Nicole Ponsford).
in my opinion crime/drama movies use specific camera work and specific facial expressions from characters to create meaning as we can see here:
4. Ideology
In Crime/Drama movies they show an idea that the Criminals are usually street-smart, immoral,meglo-
maniacal, and self-destructive.
“Crime films are focused more on the destruction of the criminal by detective, “gang-fighter” heroes”
(CI5472 Teaching Film, Television, and Media). In my opinion this shows that crime films particularly
portray an idea that the criminal's life will always be destroyed by the police.
5. Iconography of the genre
