16. Fazit:

Was bedeutet Bewusstsein und aktive Offenheit?
Einige Beispiele aus Keynote Dark Matter von Michael Peter
Edson, Director of Web and New Media Strategy, Smithsonian
Institute, Washington; Oktober 2014

1 trillion hours of free time among the educated,
Internet- connected citizens of Earth
that can be used for a higher purpose

Vera Rubin had discovered Dark Matter
It is now believed that Dark Matter
makes up 90% of the mass of the
universe.

20. And I think the Internet has
a kind of dark matter too
21. It has an enormous mass and force that
often can’t be seen or detected by
organizations…

“Working in traditional ways” wäre auch: das Analoge
digitalisieren und auf einer Website ‘anbieten’, ohne
die Chancen auf Zusammenarbeit wahrzunehmen, zu
suchen und zu nutzen ... Digitales weiterdenken ist
gefordert ...
24. The dark matter of the Internet is
open,
social,
peer-to-peer,
read/write…

And without it, we’re only
using a small part of what
the Internet can do to help
us accomplish our
missions.

We’re so accustomed to the scale of
attention that we get from visitation to
bricks-and-mortar buildings that it’s
difficult to understand how big the
Internet is—
and how much attention,
curiosity, and creativity a
couple of billion people can
have.
26. “Openness is not just about distributing information.
It is also a matter of being present in order to interact
and cooperate with the people who want to follow you.
Ideally, openness allows you to work together with
members of the community.” —Merete Sanderhoff

27. Francesca De Gottardo, Alessandro D’Amore, Valeria
Gasparotti, Aurora Raimondi Cominesi, Federica Rossi
In 2014, a group of Italian museum lovers
became frustrated by the lack of online
engagement among Italian institutions

“Our ebook addresses Museum
professionals approaching social
networks, or the web in general, for
the very fist time, as well as those
more experienced but eager to
know more.”
34. “Only with the Internet can a peasant I have
never met hear my voice and I can learn what’s
on his mind. A fairy tale has come true.”

35. We should expect to see countless thousands of projects like
these as the Internet continues to grow, platforms become
more powerful and easier to use, and citizens become more
confident in their abilities to challenge, help, and even surpass
the accomplishments of what have previously been sacrosanct
institutions.
Our choice will be whether to ignore or discourage these
people, compete with them, or dedicate ourselves to ensuring
their lifelong success.

Like the universe before Vera Rubin discovered dark
matter, we were seeing only the small percentage of
cultural activity that we expected to see, where we
expected to see it, when we expected to see it.
