DIY Double Glazing Repairs - How Replace a Double Glazed Unit
1. How To Glaze a upvc Window www.DoubleGlazingRepairsLeeds.co.uk
2. To Glaze The Window You Must First Remove The glazing Beads That Hold The Old Glass In Place, This Enables You To Remove The Old One & Fit The Replacement Glass.
3. Most Windows Nowadays Are Internally Glazed So Your Beads Should Be On The Inside Located All Around The Frame. Use a Chisel Or Putty Knife To Remove Them & Take Note How They Come Out This Will Help When You Put Them Back In.
4. Firstly Place 2 Glazing Packers On The Bottom Of The Frame Where The Glass Is Going To Sit Making Sure Not To Trap The Packer Behind The Internal Pane. As This Can Cause The Glass To Break When You Hammer The Beads Back Into Place.
6. Take The Top Bead & Place It In Position Then Using Your Thumb Just Above The Black Rubber Gasket & Push So As To Compress The Gasket Onto The Glass Then Tap The Bead Into Place With a Plastic Glazing Mallet. You Have To Work Along The Bead Following This Procedure.
7. This Type Of Bead Is Called The Hook Bead The Compression Puts The hook In The Correct Position To Be Easily Tapped Into Place. If You Have It In Correctly It Should Be a Nice Tight Fit, If It’s Loose It’s Not In Correctly.
8. Do Exactly The Same For The Bottom Bead & Then The Sides. If all For Beads Are Mitred You Will Have To Bend The Two Side Beads Into The Corners & Then Tap Them home.
