Education

I was born in Lisbon, Portugal. I received my BSc and MSc Electronic Eng. in 1966 and 1967 respectively, in the Instituto Superior Técnico ( IST) and I got my PhD in Cybernetics in the Univ. of Brunel, UK in 1986 having had Profs. Gordon Pask and Heinz von Foerster as main supervisors. In the IST, I mainly taught Cybernetics and Fuzzy/Neural Control during 24 years. I was also Responsible Director in the Natio.Lab.of Civil Eng. (Hydraulic Depart., Instrument. Section) between 1966 and 1974 as well as Invited Prof. of Facult. de Letras de Lisboa (FLL) and Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada where I gave Post-Grad. lectures in realm of *Modelling Mental and Brain Control Systems, par...
