2. The Best Way To Tread Water
If you want to maintain the best position
for treading water, keep your head and
shoulders straight and above the surface of
the water.
Move your legs forward and then backward
to stay upright and to keep yourself ready
for play.
Your arms can help you stay steady in the
water, but they should also be ready to
catch a pass or propel you forward.
3. Passing the Ball
When you throw a dry pass you should aim
the ball above your teammate's head and
toward his dominant arm.
With a wet pass, though, you want the ball
to land in front of your teammate.
Then he can swim toward the ball and away
from any opponents.
4. Swimming and Ball Control
When swimming with the ball, you need to
stay aware of holding the ball, look for
opponents, and be mindful of your
teammates’ positions.
All of this means that swimming with your
head underwater isn’t the best strategy.
Therefore, you need to keep your head
above the water and use your shoulders to
move the ball.
Keep your fingers cupped while moving
through the water so that you can move
more quickly.
5. Scoring
If you can reduce the amount of tension
you carry in your upper body and keep your
body steady, you’ll throw and score better.
Before you throw the ball, aim your body
toward the spot where you want the ball to
go.
Then when you actually throw the ball you
should move your arm as if you’re throwing
a baseball.
6. Catching the Ball
Catching the ball with two hands is not a
good strategy.
Practice catching with one hand until it
becomes comfortable.
During a game you want to make sure one
hand remains in the water to keep you
steady when the ball is thrown to you.
Keep your free hand close to the side of
your head. This is where your teammate
will try to place the ball when it's thrown.
Once the ball reaches you, bring it down to
the water and close to your body so that
you can protect it.
