Background <ul><li>For years there was a recognized void in organized communication between pediatric subspecialists and the larger spectrum of organizations representing pediatrics. </li></ul><ul><li>Over the last two years, FOPO, AAP, ABP, PAS/SPR, APPD, and AMSPDC (most specifically Drs.Behrman, Stapleton, Schnaper, and Sectish) sponsored a number of exploratory meetings which culminated in the formation of CoPS (Council of Pediatric Subspecialties) in September 2006. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Mission <ul><li>The Council of Pediatric Subspecialties integrates approaches to subspecialty education, research and patient care by providing a forum for members and other organizations and by serving as the common voice for the pediatric subspecialties. </li></ul>

  10. 10. What have we done? <ul><li>Executive committee has been formed, bylaws have been drafted and are currently out for final vote. </li></ul><ul><li>Our website has been created and is being populated. Discussion board capabilities are included. </li></ul>  www.pedsubs.org
  11. 11. PIF Revisions <ul><li>In two separate groups, CoPS served as the communication vector from ACGME to subspecialties requesting suggestions for revisions for PIFs. </li></ul><ul><li>Personal experience in nephrology. </li></ul>

Fellowship Application Process Task Force <ul><li>A survey was developed and sent to all current fellows in all subspecialties regarding issues of application (including ERAS, uniform dates), acceptance dates, and match – as of 2 weeks ago, 900 responses have been received (30%). </li></ul><ul><li>Data under continued collection and evaluation. </li></ul><ul><li>Anticipated report by winter 2007. </li></ul>

  15. 15. <ul><li>Models of curricula identified from a number of major centers, but the need for more broadly representative models was noted. </li></ul><ul><li>Over 60 individuals from a variety of subspecialties and program structures have been identified to develop “best practices” list. </li></ul><ul><li>Meeting in Toronto to draft plans for next steps. </li></ul><ul><li>Goal: website accessible toolkits, videostreams, content, etc. </li></ul>Fellowship Core Curriculum Task Force
