In this fourth sermon on Geneseo Evangelical Free Church's 8 core values we will focus upon our commitment to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. From the earliest chapters of the Bible we see that God had a personal relationship with Adam and Eve. And as mankind falls into sin, that relationship is tested and changed, but God continues to build friendships with people like Abraham, Moses and David. And then, in the NT we see that Jesus has a circle of friends, but he expands that circle to include us as well!

Describe who Mounce is. He is the E.F. Hutton of Greek studies. When R.H. Mounce speaks, students listen.
When Mounce uses the word “trust” rather than “believe” it is worth noting.
The Greek word for belief has a broader landscape than our word. It means to consider something to be true and therefore worthy of one’s trust. It doesn’t indicate a blind faith, but a reasoned faith. Jesus starts with that which was a shared belief. The Jews of his day shared a belief in God. But Jesus wants them to understand that he is trustworthy. They need to add a belief in Him.
