1. Awakening To Regret (I Wish I Could Start Over)
Pastor Chuck Bernal – May 21, 2017
Make sure that no one misses out on God’s grace. (Hebrews
12:15 - CEB)
WHEN YOU MISS GRACE, YOU LIVE WITH THE PAIN OF
REGRET
For I am fully aware of all I have done wrong,
and my guilt is there, staring me in the face. (Psalm 51:3 –
Voice)
My shameful deed haunts me day and night. (Psalm 51:3 – LB)
I know how bad I’ve been; my sins are staring me down. (Psalm
51:3 – Msg)
I’m exhausted. I cannot even speak, my voice fading as sighs.
Every day ends in the same place—lying in bed, covered in tears,
my pillow wet with sorrow. (Psalm 6:6 – Voice)
When we hit bottom and realize what a mess we have made of
our lives
and what a mess life has made of us, our reaction is to say, “I
WISH I COULD START OVER.”
WHEN YOU EMBRACE GRACE, YOU LIVE WITH
FORGIVENESS & FREEDOM
2. For by the blood of Christ we are set free, that is, our sins are
forgiven.
How great is the grace of God, which he gave to us in such
large measure!
(Ephesians 1:7-8 – GNB)
You will never appreciate grace until you realize just how much
you need it!
The more I recognize the ugliness of my sin,
the more I can appreciate the beauty of God’s grace.
Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
(Romans 3:23 – NLT)
As long as I think, “I’M NOT THAT BAD”, grace will never
seem that good.
If the biggest sinner you know isn’t you, then you don’t know
yourself very well.
This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it:
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am
the worst of them all. (1 Timothy 1:15 – NLT)
We don’t need an EXPLANATION of grace; we need to
EXPERIENCE it –
and that’s why Jesus came!
The Word became a human being full of grace and truth and
lived among us.
(John 1:14 – GNT)
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought
death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned . . .
For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many.
But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of
forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And
3. the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the
result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to, but God’s
free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though
we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam,
caused death to rule over many. But EVEN GREATER IS GOD’S
WONDERFUL GRACE and his gift of righteousness, for all who
receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this
one man, Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:12-17 – NLT)
