VOLCANOES
WHAT IS A VOLCANO?
● A volcano is a
    mountain.
● Most of the time, it
    shoots out gas, ash,
    and burning rock.
    This is called an
    eruption.
INSIDE A VOLCANO
● Inside every volcanoe
    there is a deep hole.
It is so hot there that
    some of the rocks
    melt.
● This hot, runny rocks
    is called magma, but
    the hot rock that
    comes out is called
    lava.
TYPES OF VOLCANOES
        VOLCANOES ON LAND
● Some volcanoes are
    active.
● Active volcanoes are
    always erupting.
TYPES OF VOLCANOES
        VOLCANOES ON LAND
● Some volcanoes are
    dormant.
● These volcanoes are
    sleeping.
● They are dangerous
    too.
TYPES OF VOLCANOES
        VOLCANOES ON LAND
● Some volcanoes are
    extinct.
● Extinct volcanoes are
    volcanoes we think
    can´t erupt again but
● sometimes they wake
    up.
TYPES OF VOLCANOES
    VOLCANOES UNDER THE SEA
● There are lots more
    volcanoes under the
    sea
● One third of the world
    ´s active volcanoes
    are on land. Other are
    under the sea
A STORY FROM
THE PAST
Vesuvius is an excint volcano in Italy. Its very famous because there was a
terrible eruption in 79 A.D. We know about the eruption from very old lettlers.

One afternoon the people from Pompeii heard a loud noise. They looked up
and saw a cloud of ash shooting out of the top of Mount Vesuvius . Soon
after that, failling rocks started hitting the town. People ran out of their
houses, but they couldn't breathe. There were huge clouds of ash and gas.
By the evening, thousands of people were dead.
The next day, lots of mud and ash covered the town. It hardened into rock
and covered Pompeii.
Pompeii was a lost city.
People forgot about Pompeii for 1,500 years.
INFORMATION OF ANOTHER
      VOLCANOES
Mount St.Helens
       It is in Washington D.C,
       it is an active volcano.
       The most catastrofic
       eruption was on May
       18, 1980.Fifty seven
       people were killed. The

       volcano. Its last
       eruption was in 1909.
ETNA
  ● It is in Scily, Italy.
      Etna is a active
      volcano. In Europe is
      the largest volcano. In
      2002-2003 there were
      the biggest eruptions
      and the most
      important eruption
      was in 1669. It killed
      only a few people.

       ● It is in Colombia. It's
           the highest active
           volcano in Colombia.
           The most important
           eruption was in 1985.
           23.000 people died.
KRAKATOA
    ● It is in Indonesia.It´s a
        dormant volcano. The
        most important
        eruption was in 1883.
