OTAKUTHON est le carrefour de la culture pop
japonaise à Montréal. En cette 8e édition, ce festival
réunit une fois de plus manga, jeux vidéo, anime,
cosplay et karaoké!
La culture pop japonaise continue sa montée
populaire, repoussant encore et toujours les limites
de l’imaginaire grâce à ses images qui étonnent et ses
fans qui détonnent. L’art du pop japonais incorpore constamment des
innovations technologiques, mariant à la fois gadgets, couleurs, sons
et vocaloids, en plus de tracer, d’une plume riche et ambiguë, des
concepts d’apparence frivole pourtant profonds de sens.
Je tiens à féliciter vivement l’équipe d’OTAKUTHON pour sa
contribution importante de temps et d’effort dans le but de faire
rayonner cet aspect incontournable de la culture japonaise au
Québec, et je salue également tous les participants, exposants,

OTAKUTHON is where all aspects of Japanese pop culture
converge in Montreal. In its 8th iteration, this festival once
again reunites manga, video games, anime, cosplay and
karaoke!
Japanese pop culture continues its popular ascent as it
breaks through the boundaries of imagination thanks to its vivid images
and its avid fans. The art of Japanese pop is constantly enhancing its
rapport with technology, mixing gadgets, colours, sounds and vocaloids,
all the while tracing seemingly frivolous yet deep concepts in a rich,
ambiguous penmanship.

THE CHAIR
Welcome, one and all, to our eighth annual
convention!
This year, we are excited to announce several new
attractions in addition to old favourites. Moon
Stream, the Japanese rock band, will catapult us
into the weekend with a concert on Friday night.
Don’t forget to book time in your busy schedule
for our fantastic line-up of guests, including our very first manga
artists from Japan. Seeking a career in the Japanese pop culture
field? Be sure to catch some of the thought-provoking talks held
by several celebrated professors of Japanese culture as part of our
new academic panel series. There will also be new programming
focused on the fascinating fandom of Touhou taking place all
weekend long! On top of all of that, of course, are the screenings,
panels, workshops, and live events that you have come to know
and love from past editions.
Otakuthon is continuously growing and evolving, incorporate
new ideas, programming, and visions, fuelled by the inspiration
of our staff, volunteers, and of course, you, our attendees. We are
ever grateful that you will be able to join us to experience some of
these changes this year and that you are part of our community as
we head into the future.
Last but not least, my sincere gratitude goes out to the staff. It is
thanks to their tireless effort, creativity, aspirations and passion
for Japanese culture that we are able to be here today.

NORTH AMERICAN GUEST OF HONOUR
Nurtured on anime classics from the tender age
of Star Blazers et al., this reclusive fanboy-turned-
voice actor/writer/ADR director/flake extraordinaire
spent more years than he cares to remember in
what might charitably be described as freefall
before landing, mostly by accident, smack dab on
the industry of his dreams. To this day, some believe
the small crater made by the impact remains the
source of his power.
Discovered by Funimation warhorse and visionary
ADR director Christopher Bevins, who cast him as
Rikichi in 2005’s Samurai 7, Tatum’s inexplicable luck has held
long enough to see his flag hoisted on a slew of dream roles, most
notably Kyoya Otori in the hit English language dub of Ouran High
School Host Club, suave, demonic Sebastian Michaelis in Black
Butler and the equal parts maniacal/vulnerable Okarin Rintarou
from Steins;Gate. Other characters the man still can’t believe he’s
had the crazy good fortune to play include: Doumeki in XXXHolic,
Jiro Mochizuki in Black Blood Brothers, Isaac Dian in Baccano!,
both God Eneru and Dalton in the new dub of One Piece, Komui
Lee in D-Gray Man, Dororo in Sgt. Frog, the titular loveable savage
of Heroic Age, Ryosuke Takahashi in Initial D, Lawrence Kraft in
Spice and Wolf, Zarbon in Dragon Ball Z Kai, Scar in Full Metal
Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Sir Hammerlock in the videogame
juggernaut Borderlands 2.
And as if being involved with so many awesome shows wasn’t
enough, in late 2007 the fluky so-and-so tempted fate by officially
branching out into ADR directing and adaptive scriptwriting for
Funimation as well. His ADR directing credits to date include
Aquarion, Jyu-oh-Sei, Romeo X Juliet, Big Windup, Rin: Daughters
of Mnemosyne and Shikabane Hime (Corpse Princess), while his
writing credits include substantial work on Ouran High School
Host Club, Heroic Age, Initial D, Blassreiter, Ga Rei: Zero, Hero
Tales, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Fractale, Deadman
Wonderland, Steins;Gate and Dragon Ball Z Kai.
In early 2010 he teamed up with Terri Doty and Stephen Hoff to
launch That Anime Show, a web-based chat show centered on
colourful, often diabolically unhinged interviews with friends and
colleagues within the dubbing industry.

passé plus de temps qu’il n’ose l’avouer à faire ce
qu’on pourrait gentiment surnommer une « chute
libre », avant d’atterrir quasiment par accident au
beau milieu de l’industrie de ses rêves. Jusqu’à ce
jour, certains croient encore que le petit cratère créé
par l’impact demeure la source de ses pouvoirs.
J. Michael a été découvert par Christopher Bevins,
directeur ADR, visionnaire et vieux de la vieille de
Funimation, qui lui a offert le personnage de Rikichi dans Samurai
7 (2005). Sa chance inexplicable lui a permis d’être associé à grand
nombre de rôles de rêve, notamment Kyoya Otori dans la version
doublée anglophone d’Ouran High School Host Club, le démoniaque

Veronica Taylor is a classically trained actor who has
performed in NYC and around the U.S. in contemporary

probably best known for playing the roles of Ash and
May on Pokemon, April on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
and roles in Cubix, Dinosaur King, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Huntik,
Tai Chi Chasers, and more. She can be heard on PBS
kids’ Word World (Sheep), Lunch Lab (Mixiebot), and
Chuck Vanderchuck’s ‘something something’ Explosion!

A mangaka (manga author) and illustrator, Ryusuke
Hamamoto’s notable works include character designs
for the Petit EVA and manga series Hiyoko Bocchi among
many others. He has a deep interest in comics, cartoons
and culture outside of Japan, some of which can be seen
in his works.
Using the name “Ryu Moto” for his activities abroad,
his first work under the name was with the comic
COMPASS in 2007 published by IMAGE. He looks

COSPLAY GUEST OF HONOUR
Nadia Baiardi, also known as NadiaSK, is an Italian
cosplayer, fashion stylist, and designer. Since
her start in 2004, she has participated in many
prominent Italian conventions where she has won
over 50 awards for “Best Female Cosplay” or “Best
Group.” Often invited as a special guest, she has
shown her costumes at many conventions and
countries internationally: TNT and CJMC in Mexico,
Sicaf in South Korea, J-PopCon in Denmark,
Connichi in Germany, IberAnime in Portugal, Cicaf
in China, Japan, AnimeFest in Czech Republic, FICOMIC in Spain,
Bristol UK.
She was the Italian representative at World Cosplay Summit 2008
dressed as Lia de Beaumont from the anime and manga Chevalier
d’Eon. In May 2010, she won “Best Cosplayer of Italy” at the Italian
Cosplay Contest with the costume of Rydia (Amano version) from
the videogame Final Fantasy IV. In March 2011, she won third
place in the Cosplay World Masters international contest in Lisbon
dressed as Touhaku from the card game Sengokushi Taisen. In the
same competition the following year, she won first place as Alice
from Scissors Crown series by illustrator Thores Shibamoto. She
was in the Italian Team at the European Cosplay Gathering 2012
and won third place. She was the European Solo Representative
in Brazil at World Cosplay Master 2012 and won third place with
Inphyy from N3.
She has appeared in various cosplay magazines such as Cosmode,
Cosmoplay andCosplayGen as well as several cosplay books such
as Otacool 2, Fenomenal Cosplay,100%Otaku and Cosplay, and
Alessia in Wonderland. MTV USA filmed a video documentary
about her life as cosplayer called NadiaSK, which was also

Aside from cosplay, one of NadiaSK’s greatest passions is video
games. she has every console! NadiaSK also runs a YouTube

Elle a représenté l’Italie au sommet mondial du cosplay 2008, habillée
en Lia de Beaumont de l’anime et manga Chevalier d’Eon. En mai 2010,
elle remporta le prix de la « Meilleure cosplayeuse de l’Italie » à l’Italian
Cosplay Contest, avec le costume de Rydia (version Amano) du jeu
vidéo Final Fantasy IV. En mars 2011, elle a remporté la troisième place
au concours international Cosplay World Masters à Lisbonne, habillée
en Touhaku du jeu de cartes Sengokushi Taisen. Lors de la même
compétition l’année suivante, elle a gagné la première place costumée
en Alice de la série Scissors Crown, illustrée par Thores Shibamoto. Elle
était dans l’équipe italienne à l’European Cosplay Gathering en 2012 et
a remporté la troisième place. NadiaSK était également la représentante
européenne solo lors du World Cosplay Master au Brésil en 2012 et a
gagné la troisième place en tant qu’Inphyy de N3.
Elle a fait des apparitions dans plusieurs magazines de cosplay, comme
Cosmode, Cosmoplayet CosplayGen, ainsi que dans plusieurs livres
de cosplay comme Otacool 2, Fenomenal Cosplay, 100% Otaku et
Cosplay Alessia in Wonderland. MTV USA a filmé un documentaire,
« NadiaSK », à propos de sa vie comme cosplayeuse. Ce documentaire a
été diffusé en Europe et au Japon. Elle est aussi une promotrice du site
Worldcosplay.net.
Outre le cosplay, une des grandes passions de NadiaSK est les jeux
vidéo. elle possède toutes les consoles! NadiaSK a également une
chaîne YouTube, VIDEOGIRLSKAI, proposant des critiques de jeux vidéo.
Riddle
COSPLAY GUEST OF HONOUR
Riddle was born and raised in Canada. Introduced
to gaming and anime at an early age, it was only
a matter of time before she would find a unique
way to express her fandom: cosplay. Each costume
presents its own set of challenges, requiring her
to learn new skills like translation, sculpting,
molding, casting and of course, sewing. What
started out as a hobby, has now led to many unique
opportunities such as getting to work on a couple
films and commercials, as well as getting invited
to conventions all around the world. Riddle is also the creator
of “Cosplay for a Cause”, a cosplay charity group she started
whose first project raised over 30,000 for the Japanese Red Cross
tsunami disaster relief. When she isn’t working on her costumes,
she is rescuing baby squirrels, or talking to her robot therapist
about video games. She is one of the Cast members of SYFY’s new
cosplay reality show “Heroes of Cosplay” premiering Aug 13th,
2013
Riddle
INVITÉE D’HONNEUR DU COSPLAY
Riddle est née et a grandi au Canada. Intéressée par
les jeux vidéo et les anime dès son plus jeune âge,
elle a tout naturellement trouvé une manière unique
d’exprimer son côté fan : le cosplay. Chaque costume
amenant son lot de défis, elle a dû acquérir de
nouvelles habiletés comme la traduction, la sculpture,
le moulage, le coulage et, bien sûr, la couture. Ce
qui était d’abord un passe-temps l’a conduite à
prendre part à des projets uniques, comme travailler
sur quelques films et publicités et participer à de
nombreux festivals à titre d’invitée. Riddle est également la fondatrice
de Cosplay for a Cause, un organisme de charité qui, lors de sa
première collecte de fonds, a réussi à amasser plus de 30 000 $ pour
la Croix-Rouge du Japon et venir en aide aux victimes du tsunami.
Lorsqu’elle ne crée pas ses costumes, Riddle sauve des bébés-
écureuils et parle de jeux vidéo à son robot-psychologue. Elle fait
partie de la distribution de la nouvelle émission de téléréalité de SYFY,
Heroes of Cosplay, qui débutera le 13 août 2013.

Mel Gosselin
Originaire de Rimouski, Mel Gosselin carbure à l’animation
japonaise, aux bandes dessinées et aux jeux vidéo. Se définissant
comme étant une geek, cette écrivaine hors-norme aime puiser
son inspiration dans la sous-culture populaire, se prendre pour
un personnage de manga et siroter un bon thé vert en écoutant
le coassement des grenouilles. Auteur du roman historico-
fantastique Cétacia, acclamé par la critique et qui a remporté le prix des arts et
culture Desjardins en 2012, Mel travaille présentement à l’écriture d’une toute
nouvelle série qui devrait voir le jour en 2014 où aventure, action et suspens
seront au rendez-vous!
Mel Gosselin
Native of Rimouski, Mel Gosselin is fueled by Japanese
animation, comics and video games. A self-declared
geek, this unconventional writer loves to draw inspiration
from the popular subculture, pretending to be a manga
character and enjoying a good green tea while listening to
the croaking of frogs. Author of the historical-fantasy novel
Cétacia, which has been critically acclaimed and won the Desjardins
Award for Arts and Culture in 2012, Mel is currently working on
writing a completely new series which should be released in 2014
where adventure, action and suspense will be waiting for you!

Jeff Simpson
Jeff Simpson is a concept artist and digital illustrator
currently employed at Ubisoft in Montreal, Canada. He
has most recently worked on the Assassin’s Creed video
game franchise as well as Universal’s Snow White and
the Huntsman. A graduate of Emily Carr University of Art
and Design, Jeff has been working as a concept artist
for games, film, TV and editorial illustration for 6 years. His past
clients include Universal Pictures, The Mill VFX, Wizards of the
Coast and a variety of publishing houses.

Benoit Godbout - dessinateur / auteur. Né à Montréal en 1977, Benoit est
diplômé de l’école de design graphique de l’UQAM. En 2004, il reçoit le
Prix de la relève décerné par l’Alliance pour l’enfance et la télévision. Il est
le créateur du dessin animé Blaise le blasé, lequel s’est mérité en 2008 le
Gémeaux de la meilleure série d’animation.

chief of Anime News Network and is now the company’s
publisher and CEO as well as a consultant for anime
companies in Japan, America and other surprising corners
of the planet. Despite being immersed in anime and manga
politics nearly 24/7, he’s still perfectly happy spending his
free time reading the latest Yotsuba&! or Gunnm manga, or watching
an episode of Attack on Titan.
Christopher MacDonald
Christopher Macdonald fut longtemps le rédacteur en chef

developer on Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Montreal-based art initiative EN MASSE is best described as
an ongoing exercise in irreverent, improvised collaborative
drawing in black and white, involving an expanding network
of artists internationally. Its diverse voices - grounded in
the realms of commercial graphics, underground comics,
graffiti, and fine art - weave together to build a collective
vision, greater than any could create on their own. Outlets for the
creative energy of EN MASSE include works in established galleries
and art institutions, commercial contracts, festivals and other public
events, and the pedagogical efforts of its EN MASSE For The Masses
branch.
The initiative began as a one-off gallery installation, at Galerie Pangée
in Old Montreal in 2009. Four years later, EN MASSE has conducted
installations throughout North America and beyond - Montreal and
Toronto, Miami, San Diego and NYC, even Tokyo, Japan. In that
time, EN MASSE has created temporary and permanent works for
the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Cirque de Soleil, in Miami’s
Wynwood district for Primary Flight and at the Fountain Art Fair
during NYC’s Armory Week - among so many others.

Professional sculptor, painter, designer and cosplayer,
Anasthasia brings us her first collection of anthropomorphic
BJD already being sold worldwide.
It was in 2009 while she was teaching art that Anasthasia
discovered the world of BJD through a magazine. She then set a goal for
herself. Anasthasia saw an extraordinary medium in these articulated dolls
that pushed her forward in her art while combining her great passion for
dolls which grew with her from a very young age. It was finally in 2011
that her first BJD collection was born and was met with great success.
Anasthasia takes advantage of her free time indulging in her passions
for sewing, painting and her passion for cosplay. Anasthasia is currently
focusing on her next BJD collection which will be available soon.

Kyowa Quebec
Kyowa est une maison d’édition permettant la publication de
mangas dessinés pour et par des Québécois. Les nombreux
artistes à son bord se démarquent par leurs projets de bandes
dessinées tout à fait originales qui sont offertes depuis près de
3 ans. L’apparition de la première revue s’est effectuée pour
Otakuthon en 2009, et nous voilà de retour cette année avec la suite!

Kyowa is a publisher which allows the publishing of manga
drawn for and by Quebecers. The many artists on board
stand out by their entirely original comic book projects
which have been offered for nearly 3 years. The first
publication was completed for Otakuthon in 2009, and
we’re back again this year with the sequel!

MUSEbasement est un cercle de créateurs de BD, de mangas

Moon Stream

517abc* Moon Stream is a new musical unit combining
the forces of Japanese visual style rock with the sounds of
the New York underground. Created in early 2011, Moon
Stream is fronted by Satsuki (vocals, ex RENTRER EN SOI)
and Tomo (guitar, echostream). These two veterans of
the early visual kei explosion in Japan are now active on
opposite ends of the globe.
The first half of the band’s name “Moon” is derived from Satsuki’s own
name, while the latter half, taken from Tomo’s band name “echostream,”
fuses to create a fresh concept for a band unlike any other - channeling
the energy of the moon as a powerful musical force.
Displaying their visual and musical talent from signature rock sounds,
ambient compositions, to dance rock music, their US debut launched
Moon Stream into the sky. Don’t miss Moon Stream’s first Canadian
appearance at Otakuthon 2013!

qui sait combiner les forces du « visual rock » japonais aux
sons underground de New York. Créé en début 2011, Moon

L’orchestre de Jeux Vidéo
517abc* L’orchestre de Jeux Vidéo a été fondé en 2008 par
Catherine Caplette-Bérubé, Jocelyn Leblanc et Sébastien
Wall-Lacelle. Sous la direction du maestro Jocelyn Leblanc,
sa mission principale (comme son nom l’indique) est de
donner des concerts de musique des trames sonores de
jeux vidéo, un concept unique au Québec. Dès ses débuts,
l’orchestre a obtenu un grand succès auprès du public montréalais : de
nombreux concerts ont attiré plus de 500 spectateurs. L’orchestre a
célébré son 5e anniversaire en juin avec un concert de Final Fantasy le
15 juin et un concert de Mario Bros le 29 juin.
Yokai Project
517abc* Yokai Project est un groupe de J-Rock originaire
de Montréal, Canada. Le groupe fait des reprises de chansons
connues venant d’anime, de jeux vidéos et de groupes J-Rock
populaires, ainsi que leurs propres compositions basées sur
la musique des jeux de la série Touhou Project. Les membres
sont connus pour leur passion de la musique japonaise et pour
leur présence dynamique sur scène lors de leurs performances.
Ils figurent parmi les premiers groupes à jouer de la musique de Touhou
Project en Amérique du Nord et leur premier album sortira cet été.
Yua Wakana

Elle fut l’une des premières à donner des présentations de J-Pop au Café
Cosplay d’Otakuthon en 2010 et 2011, et au piano en 2012. Elle performe
également dans plusieurs événements comme Cape et Kimono,
Nadeshicon, BIG BENTO et l’événement Otakuthon du Festival Juste
pour rire. Elle a été finaliste à Anime North Idol 2013, avec la chanson

September 2008 by Catherine Caplette-Bérubé, Jocelyn

Jocelyn Leblanc, its primary mission (as its name suggests) is
to produce concerts featuring music from the video games
soundtrack repertoire, which is a unique concept in Quebec.
From its earliest days, the orchestra has always had great success with
the Montreal crowd, with many concerts gathering over 500 people.
The orchestra will be celebrating their 5th year in June 2013 with a Final
Fantasy concert on June 15th and a Mario Bros. concert on June 29th!
Yokai Project
517abc* Yokai Project is a J-Rock cover band from
Montreal, Canada. The band plays covers of popular
songs from anime, video games and J-Rock bands,
along with their own compositions based on music of
the Touhou Project series. The members are known for
their Japanese music passion and their dynamic stage
presence during their shows. They are one of the first
bands to play Touhou Project music in North America and their
first album will be released this summer.
Yua Wakana
517abc* Yua Wakana has mainly been influenced by pop
music. In 2009, she received an honourable mention for her
first appearance at Otakuthon Idol with the song Inori~You
Raise Me Up~ (originally by Lena Park), performing in front
of hundreds of people. She has a wide vocal range, though
her soul and Rn’B touch is what describes her voice best. She
also plays piano and draws much of her inspiration from Yamapi, Shota
Shimizu, Joe Inoue, LM.C, BoA and, more recently, X-Japan, NAUL, Yiruma
and LYN.
One of the first to present popular J-Pop shows at the Otakuthon Cosplay
Cafe in 2010 and 2011 as well as a piano performance in 2012, Yua

Nadeshicon, BIG BENTO, and the Otakuthon event at Just for Laughs. At
Anime North Idol 2013, she was a finalist with the song Mikazuki (originally

Le club Feng Huang Wushu est un club d’arts martiaux
chinois situé à Montréal. Les élèves se sont distingués sur la scène
nationale et internationale, mais aussi sur la scène locale avec leur
implication communautaire.
Komachi Montréal

japonaise, existant depuis 2007, qui présente plusieurs
danses folkloriques du Japon dans la région de Montréal.

517abc* Le groupe Press Start 2 Play (ou PS2P pour faire
court) allie musique et jeux vidéo. Il se compose de Jake (à
la guitare), Robyn (au chant), Taylin (à la basse) et Karan (à la
batterie). Ces quatre compagnons espèrent parcourir le monde,
rencontrer de nouveaux personnages et terminer des quêtes à
l’aide de personnes qui partagent leur façon de penser.
Feng Huang Wushu Club
710a* Wushu consists of highly intense and precise
routines both with and without the use of weaponry.
Wushu also emcompasses traditional elements more
commonly known as Kung Fu, combining them with
acrobatic manoeuvres.
The Feng Huang Wushu Club is a leading Chinese martial
arts club in the Montreal area. Students are notable for their
success in national or international competitions, but also for their
involvement in the Montreal community.
Komachi Montreal
514d* Komachi Montreal is a Japanese dance group
which exists since 2007 and presents several folkloric dances
from across Japan in the Montreal area. The purpose of our
performances is to share pleasant moments with everybody
through our dances, so please come share this pleasant
moment with us during the convention! We will also be
doing a Montreal Ondo workshop during our performance. Montreal
Ondo is an original Japanese dance which was created by a Japanese
community here in Montreal. Let’s dance together!
The 404s

our best shows yet! This year, we celebrate TEN YEARS
of improv comedy at anime conventions, and we’re
bringing the party to Montreal again!
If you aren’t familiar with our brand of anime improv,
definitely check out at least one of our shows on
the con weekend. Every show is unrehearsed, unpredictable,
unrepeatable, and influenced by YOUR suggestions and
participation! We’ll create comedy scenes based in your ideas,
combined with our improv know-how and anime fanboyisms. The
result is comedy that’ll have you laughing like crazy and knowing
why The 404s pack rooms at fandom events around Canada and
in the States!
Press Start 2 Play
517abc* Press Start 2 Play (or PS2P for short) is the
birth-child of music and video games. PS2P consists of

DJ Janos
710a* Tracing his roots back to eurodance and vocal-
pop house, DJ JANOS has constantly re-invented himself
to bring his audiences the very best dance party he can
offer. He blends his old and classic tracks that ground him,
with the new and eclectic styles he finds himself gravitating
towards. It is this art of bringing together old and new, new
and newer that has kept his audiences on their feet.
2013 will mark the 10 year anniversary of Janos’ DJ career, and he
has no plans to slow down. Having become the resident “Dance
Commander” of ConBravo, Con-G, and Otakuthon’s Saturday Night
Dance parties, he owes much to his loyal convention-going fans. DJ
Janos’ approach to each and every party he touches is simple: To
Entertain. Be it through his music, his costumes, his dancing, or his
antics, Janos does not disappoint. His only goal is to make sure his
audience has the best time possible, and to see everyone dancing at
once is greatest joy. DJ Janos has some exciting things happening to
celebrate his 10 years behind the decks, so be sure not to miss him.

house, DJ JANOS s’est réinventé plusieurs fois afin d’offrir
à son public les meilleures soirées. Il intègre les succès
plus anciens et les classiques qui l’ont fait connaître aux
nouveaux styles éclectiques qui l’attirent. C’est son talent à
amalgamer nostalgie et nouveauté, et d’être innovateur et
original, qui garde son public sur la piste de danse.
2013 marque le dixième anniversaire de sa carrière d’animateur et Janos
ne prévoit pas de pause de sitôt. Il doit son grand succès en tant que
« général de la danse » de Conbravo, Con-G et de la danse du samedi soir
d’Otakuthon aux festivaliers, qui lui également sont de fidèles admirateurs.
L’approche de DJ Janos est simple : il souhaite divertir. Que ce soit par sa
musique, ses costumes, son style de danse ou ses singeries, il ne déçoit pas.
Son but ultime est de faire passer la meilleure soirée possible à son public,
et sa plus grande joie est de voir tout le monde réuni sur un même pas de
danse. DJ Janos vous réserve une performance des plus excitantes pour
célébrer ses dix années au tourne-disque, alors ne manquez pas d’y assister.
INVITÉS INTERPRÈTES
Matthew Myers
Matthew Myers est un compositeur de musique
professionnel pour jeux vidéo et autres médias depuis
2006. On peut entendre ses œuvres dans plusieurs visual
novel et jeux de rôle RPG, notamment Heileen 3, Loren
Amazon Princess et Always Remember Me de Winter
Wolves Games, ainsi que dans The Royal Trap et Date Warp
de Hanako Games. De plus, Matt a créé la musique et le son
de l’entrée ayant remporté le grand prix du concours de conception
de jeu « Calling All Innovators » présenté par Nokia. Il a également
enregistré et fait le mixage de la chanson thème anglophone du
défunt jeu de Xbox Gun Loco de Square-Enix.
Par ailleurs, Matt est l’auteur et le chanteur du groupe otaku
LeetStreet Boys. Ces derniers ont fait leurs premiers pas dans le
monde des festivals d’anime en 2008 grâce au vidéoclip Yuri The Only
One, visionné plus de 1,5 million de fois sur YouTube. Par la suite, le
groupe a produit 3 albums, LeetStreet Boys, Otaku Hearts et L3g3nds,
ainsi que des vidéoclips pour les simples Guitar Hero Hero, She’s So
Kawaii et Cosplay Girlfriend. Le groupe a donné des concerts dans
de nombreux festivals d’anime partout en Amérique du Nord et leur
musique est appréciée des amateurs d’anime aux quatre coins du
globe.
L’année dernière, Matt a produit une chanson bilingue avec Irulanne
(chanteuse et créatrice du concours Otakuthon Idol).
Daito Ryu Koryukan
710a* Première filiale d’Hakuho Ryu au pays, Koryukan
est un dojo indépendant qui a pour but la pratique et
la conservation des techniques du Daito Ryu Aki Budo
traditionnel et du Kenjutsu Ono Ha Itto Ryu comme elles
ont été transmises.
Situé à Montréal, le dojo Koryukan offre un enseignement
de l’Aiki Jujutsu Daito Ryu et du Kenjutsu aux individus et aux
groupes. Le respect, la loyauté, la camaraderie, l’humanité, l’humilité,
la bravoure, le dévouement, l’engagement et la droiture d’esprit sont
toutes des valeurs fortement encouragées.
La pratique du Daito-ryu vise l’amélioration de la vie de notre
entourage. Le personnel de Koryukan a non seulement pour mission
la conservation et le développement du Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu, mais
aussi d’en faire la promotion à l’échelle mondiale et d’assurer sa
pérennité par les générations futures.
Matthew Myers
Matthew Myers has composed music for video games
and other media professionally since 2006. Fans can
hear Matt’s music in visual novels and RPGs like Heileen
3, Loren Amazon Princess and Always Remember Me
from Winter Wolves Games, as well as The Royal Trap
and Date Warp from Hanako Games. Additionally, Matt
created music and audio for the grand prize winning
entry in Nokia’s “Calling All Innovators” game development
competition, and also recorded and mixed English language
theme song vocals for Square-Enix’s ill-fated Xbox title Gun Loco.
Matt is also the lead singer and songwriter from otaku band
LeetStreet Boys. LeetStreet Boys first emerged in the anime

YouTube views. The band has gone on to release 3 full-length
albums titled LeetStreet Boys, Otaku Hearts and L3g3nds, as
well as produce animated music videos for singles Guitar Hero
Hero, She’s So Kawaii and Cosplay Girlfriend. LeetStreet Boys has
performed at numerous anime conventions across North America
and their music is enjoyed by anime fans worldwide.
In the last year Matt produced a song with Irulanne (singer and
creator of Otakuthon Idol) in both English and French.
Daito Ryu Koryukan
710a* The first Hakuho Ryu branch opened in Canada,
Koryukan is an independent dojo whose goal is to
practice and preserve the techniques of traditional
Daito-ryu Aki Budo and Kenjutsu Ona Itto-ryu as they
were taught.
Located in Montreal, Koryukan offers the teachings
of Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu and Kenjutsu to individuals and
groups. Respect, loyalty, friendship, humanity, humility, bravery,
dedication, commitment and righteousness are all values strongly
encouraged.
The purpose of Daito-ryu practice is to better our own lives and
the lives of those around us. Koryukan feels that it must not
only preserve and develop Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu, but also must
strive to promote it all over the world and pass it down to future
generations.

Martin Picard
Martin Picard est chargé de cours et chercheur postdoctoral. Il
revient d’un séjour d’un an au Japon dans le cadre d’un projet
de recherche sur la culture du jeu vidéo japonais à l’Université
Wako, Tokyo. Auparavant, il a fait un stage postdoctoral à
l’Université McGill et obtenu son doctorat en littérature et
cinéma à l’Université de Montréal. Ses enseignements et
recherches portent sur le cinéma et la culture populaire japonaise, l’histoire
et l’esthétisme du jeu vidéo, et le cinéma numérique. Il a publié plusieurs
articles et chapitres de livres dans des revues et ouvrages scientifiques
consacrés à l’étude du jeu vidéo et la culture populaire japonaise.
Marc Steinberg
Marc Steinberg enseigne les études cinématographiques
à l’Université Concordia, à Montréal. Il est l’auteur de

Located on the 2nd floor of the Palais, the Chibi Café can be
found in the Exhibition Hall near the exit. It’s a place where you
can nibble on a snack while resting your tired legs after an intense
shopping spree! In order to accommodate visitors and exhibitors,
the Chibi Café offers snacks and simple meals both for dine-in and
take-out. Inevitably having a more chibi (small) menu, the Chibi
Café allows people in a hurry to relax without having to climb

Les cérémonies d’ouverture d’Otakuthon 2013 débuteront
officiellement le festival avec fracas! Les cérémonies commenceront
avec une prestation de Shannon Bouchard, la soliste gagnante
d’Otakuthon Idol 2012, suivit d’une dance inspirée de l’ère Edo par le
groupe BLT de J-Musique en mouvement et la présentation de nos
invités, incluant des discours de la part de nos invités d’honneur.
Mascarade
Événements principaux 517ABC* Vous pensez avoir un superbe
costume et aimeriez le montrer à tous? La mascarade vous offre
l’opportunité de le faire sur scène et avec flair! Que ce soit une
simple marche ou un sketch, seul ou en groupe, montrez votre
costume au reste du monde et à notre groupe de juges cosplayeurs
d’expérience. Ils décideront des gagnants et présenteront les prix
basés sur la qualité des costumes et des présentations. Vous n’avez
pas de costume? Venez quand même encourager les douzaines de
cosplayeurs qui vous montreront le résultat de leur labeur.
Spectacle de sketchs otaku

vos talents d’Otaku! Le spectacle de sketchs otaku du vendredi soir
accueille ceux désirant relever le défi et performer leur meilleur
sketch devant audience. À la différence de la Mascarade du samedi
soir, le spectacle de sketch est pour ceux qui aiment performer
(synchro, danse, interprétation, comédie, etc.) en costume. Alors
venez et encouragez vos prestations préférées!
J-Musique en mouvement

propre à Otakuthon, J-Musique en mouvement (JMM) combine
chant et danse ensemble pour créer une performance unique et
impressionnante qui vous éblouira! Ce spectacle/concert se concentre
sur la chorégraphie et les harmonies qui ne peuvent qu’être réalisées à
travers le travail d’équipe. Venez profiter du spectacle!
Défilé de mode
Événements principaux 517ABC* Le Défilé de mode est de retour
cette année avec une toute nouvelle programmation axée autour de
l’esprit japonais de la mode! Vivez une expérience dans la vie d’un
top-modèle marchant sur la passerelle.
Concert Band Project
Événements principaux 517ABC* Le concert Band Project
remplira la salle des événements principaux avec de la J-musique de
grande envergure! Quelques-uns des meilleurs groupes amateurs de
J-Rock et de J-Pop animeront l’espace avec des prestations en direct.
Des amateurs jusqu’aux admirateurs inconditionnels de J-Rock, en
passant par les fanatiques d’OST d’anime, ce concert fera ressortir le
meilleur de la musique japonaise! Un événement à ne pas manquer!
Le concert Band Project de cette année mettra en vedette Yua Wakana, une
chanteuse locale de J-Pop émergente qui puise ses inspirations d’artistes
comme Yamapi, LM.C et X-Japan, accompagnée de son groupe. Également
en vedette au concert sera Press Start 2 Play (PS2P), un groupe torontois de
quatre membres qui joue de la musique inspirée de jeux vidéo.
Otakuthon Idol
Événements principaux 517ABC* Otakuthon Idol est un concours
qui cherche à faire ressortir le prochain Gackt ou la prochaine
KOTOKO qui sommeille en vous. Si vous êtes un des heureux
participants sélectionnés, vous pourrez chanter sur scène lors
du spectacle et courir la chance d’obtenir le titre de « Otakuthon
Idol 2013 ». Pour participer, vous devrez apprendre une chanson
japonaise par cœur pour ensuite assister aux auditions. Par la suite,
si vous êtes sélectionné, vous vous produirez sur scène devant nos
juges qui noteront votre performance. N’oubliez pas d’apporter un
disque compact contenant une version karaoké de votre chanson!
Vous croyez être trop timide pour monter seul sur scène? Aucun
problème! Vous pouvez effectuer une prestation en groupe sur
scène! N’attendez plus et commencez à pratiquer maintenant!
Si vous ne souhaitez pas chanter, vous pouvez assister au spectacle
où nos participants feront tout pour vous divertir. Mais surtout,
n’oubliez pas d’amener vos amis!

MAIN EVENTS
Opening Ceremonies
Main Events 517ABC* Otakuthon’s 2013 Opening Ceremonies will
officially kick things off with a bang! The ceremonies will feature a
vocal performance by Shannon Bouchard – Otakuthon Idol 2012
Solo Winner, an Edo-theme dance performance by the group BLT
from J-Music in Motion, and the introduction of our special guest
line-up including speeches from our Guests of Honor.
Masquerade
Main Events 517ABC* Think you have a great costume and want to
show it off? The masquerade gives you a chance to do it on stage in a really
big way! Whether it be a walk-on or a skit, by yourself or as a group, show
off your costumes to the rest of the world and to our panel of experienced
cosplayer judges who will decide the winners and present awards the
quality of the costumes and presentations. Even if you’re not costumed,
come and cheer the labor of dozens of cosplayers as they show off their
hard work.
Otaku Skit Show
Main Events 517ABC* It’s now time to let your hidden Otaku talent
shine! The Friday Night Otaku Skit Show welcomes those who will rise
to the challenge and put on their best skit for everyone to see. Not
to be confused with the Saturday Night Masquerade, the Otaku Skit
Show is for those who love to perform on stage (lip-syncing, dancing,
interpretation, comedy, etc.) whist in costume. So come out and
cheer for your favorite performance!
J-Music in Motion
Main Events 517ABC* Otakuthon’s own original musical show,
J-Music in Motion (JMM) fuses great singing and great dancing
together to create one awesome performance that will blow you
away! This show/concert focuses on choreography and harmonies
that can only be pulled off through teamwork. So come and enjoy the
show!
Fashion Show
Main Events 517ABC* The Fashion Show is back this year with a
whole new program revolving around the Japanese spirit of fashion!
Experience a moment in the life of a top model walking on the
catwalk.
Band Project Concert
Main Events 517ABC* The Band Project Concert will fill the
Main Events room with full blown J-Music! Rocking on with full live
performances from some of the best J-Rock or J-Pop amateur bands
out there. From otaku fans to hardcore J-Rock listeners to anime OST
fanatics, this concert will bring out the very best in Japanese music! An
event surely not to be missed!
This year’s Band Project Concert will feature Yua Wakana, an emerging
local J-Pop singer who takes her inspiration from other J-Music
performers such as Yamapi, LM.C and X-Japan; Yua will be performing
with her band. Also performing at the concert will be Press Start 2 Play
(PS2P), a four member band from Toronto that performs video game
inspired music.
Otakuthon Idol
Main Events 517ABC* Otakuthon Idol is a contest which is looking to
bring out the next Gackt or the next KOTOKO that is sleeping inside you!
If you are lucky to be one of the selected participants, you could sing on
stage and have the chance of winning the title “Otakuthon Idol 2013”.
To participate, you must learn a Japanese song by heart and be present
at the auditions. If you are selected, you will then be able to perform on
stage in front of our judges, who will evaluate your performance. Don’t
forget to bring a compact disc containing the karaoke version of your
song!
You think you are too shy to go on stage alone? No problem! You can
perform in groups! Wait no longer and start rehearsing right now!
If you aren’t interested in singing, you could always attend the show
where our participants will try their best to entertain you. But more
importantly, don’t forget to bring along your friends!
Closing Ceremonies
Main Events 517ABC* All good things must
come to an end. Join us one last time to say
farewell to Otakuthon for another year, as we
end the convention on a high note with vocal
performances from one of our Performance
Guests - Yua Wakana and “Mink” from J-Music in
Motion. There will also be closing remarks from
our remaining special guests, and a chance for our
hardworking staff to share the spotlight on stage and to
receive from the convention goers their appreciation for
all the hard work that the staff put in for Otakuthon 2013!
