Editor's Notes
Requirements:
They must be currently serving in a public school, hold a tenure and be proficient (B2- CER level) in the requested country official language
Selection criteria:
We score them according to their teacher experience, their teaching development activities completed and qualifications (masters degree, PHD, more languages certificates, etc)
Matching process: it’s crucial to work on the same page (previous criteria: levels and timing. Hosting schools should be registered in local agency. Matching process. Problem solving for particular cases)
Some candidates have previously identified a hosting school (later)
Those schools that apply for German, French and Italian speaking teachers get a teacher. In fact, thanks to the collaboration with Germany and France we manage to find visiting teachers for those schools that request English speaking teachers by providing them teachers who can use English to communicate. Most schools in our bilingual programs teach English but they have no country preference.
By reading the reports that candidates submit after their stay, we have designed a survey in order to collect data and have some statistical analysis.
So far, we have designed a survey online using GoogleDocs where teachers score 1-8.
Main issues addressed:
Facilities and resources (spaces, ICT, internet)
School Management (discipline, reports, information, parents involvement),
Classroom Management (lesson planning, delivery, methodology, students engagement, assessment, etc)
Actual Experience
Impact (future projects, changes in the teachers vision, etc)
BLOG:
Google Translator and linked to social networks
We have started a blog where we post useful information and teachers post their experiences (focusing on a relevant issue or highlight and attaching a CC image or pic)
Teachers can get inspiration, can find useful information about the countries they request, check paperwork instructions, and share good practice)
SYNCH: agree on a time range and process
ENGLISH SPEAKING TEACHERS: would it be ok to have a certain range of tolerance? Shall we put the stress in the other objectives: such as methodology, cultural awareness, etc?
PRIMARY SCHOOLS/TEACHERS: Shall we accept them? Is it possible to find a place for them in the first grades of secondary education?
UNIVERSITIES: Teaching Credentials it may turn out to be positive: Induction Programs usually present usuful contents (trends, research language acquisition, etc) and these visits are combined with actual classroom observation in local schools
ADMINISTRATORS: importance of meeting to share points of view, starting points and objectives, policies of our different educational state of affairs; come to agreements, analyze results and see how to improve.
