Question Formulation for S, U, S Characters
1. CHARACTER QUESTION FORMULATION:
SING, UNBURIED SING
1. Click through the slides and follow
the steps to produce questions.
2. Then, go to the Blackboard
Discussion Board to post your
questions and respond to others.
2. DIRECTIONS:
• Prepare to write down or type your questions.
• Produce as many questions as you can in the allotted time (I
would suggest about 15 minutes)
• Follow the Rules for Producing Questions:
• Write down as many questions as you can
• Do not stop to answer or judge your questions
• Write down every question exactly as you think of it (you can always
re-word later)
• Change any statement that comes to mind into a question
3. QUESTION FOCUS:
Focus your questions on the character assigned to you,
but don’t censor yourself if questions about other
characters come up—include those, too. We’ll start with
these three because they are the three points of view
we hear from directly.
• Reagan, John, and Shannon: Jojo
• Riley, Mana, Emily, and Anthony: Leonie
• Daniel, Kayla, and Austin: Richie
Optional additional characters:
Pop/River, Mam, Michael, Kayla, Misty, Big Joseph,
4. IMPROVING YOUR QUESTIONS
• Closed-ended Questions can be answered with a “yes’ or
“no” or with a one-word answer.
• Open-ended Questions require more explanation.
mark the questions that are closed-ended
with a “C”
mark the questions that are open-ended
with an “O”
5. IMPROVING YOUR QUESTIONS
• Choose one closed-ended question from your list and
change it into an open-ended one.
Then,
• Choose one open-ended question from your list and
change it into an closed-ended one.
6. SHARING QUESTIONS
• Identify at least three questions that most interest you.
• Go to the Sing, Unburied, Sing Character Discussion Board on
Blackboard and create a thread.
• Title it with your assigned character (and others, if you
branched out in your questions).
• Post your top three questions, and feel free to include more.
• Read your classmates’ posts.
• Write at least two replies to classmates responding to their
questions—adding additional questions, beginning to discuss
answers, making connections, etc.
