Rewa - Chapter 10 - Story
Amidst all my fears, my love for Suraj wasn't lost. Love indeed is blind!
Finally the chaotic situation at the wedding venue was resolved, and the rest of the wedding
ceremony took place in peace. All the rituals were done and we were now, husband and wife. I and
Suraj were married for lifetime. As we were walking out of the venue, I could feel butterflies in my
stomach.
'How will my wedded life be?' I wondered. If I omit the recent not-so-good experiences, I was rest
assured that I would be happy for my entire life. I and Suraj took blessings of each and every family
member. I wanted to talk to my parents before I left the venue, and started walking toward them.
Just when I was a few meters away from my parents, I felt a hand on my right shoulder. It was
Suraj's mother! She informed me that we had to leave the venue for carrying out the rest of the
rituals at Suraj's house. I mean, at our new house.
"Okay aunty. Let's go." I waved goodbye to my family and friends, and sat in the taxi that was
specially booked for the wedding.
"Take care of yourself, Rewa." My mother had tears in her eyes. My father was consoling her and
was trying to act strong, but even he had tears in his eyes. Suraj sat in the car and asked the driver
to leave the venue. I and Suraj were the only ones in the car, as my in-laws had decided to give us
some "free" time together.
I was feeling a bit uncomfortable with this feeling of being "married", and I guess even Suraj had the
same feeling. I tried to distract myself by looking out of the window while Suraj was busy checking
messages on his cell phone. There was pin drop silence in the car. After a couple of minutes, he took
my hand in his and shifted closer to me. Then, he put his hand on my shoulder and I rested my head
on his shoulder. Finally, my nerves did calm down and I closed my eyes to get the feel of the
moment. For the rest of the journey, we sat in the same position.
After an hour's drive, we reached "our" new house. His family was waiting at the front entrance to
greet us. We got down the taxi and met everyone. Then, we went inside the house. It was decorated
with lovely flowers and lights. The sweet fragrance of the flowers was spread in the entire house,
and all my tiredness disappeared due to the fragrance. His cousins showed the entire house to me,
the one that I had already seen many times. But, this time around, the feeling was different.
This is the place where I will be spending the rest of my life!
After all the remaining rituals were conducted, we all sat for having our brunch. I was feeling so
hungry that I felt I would faint if I didn't eat anything. The dining table was looking beautiful
because of all the delicious dishes that were placed on it. Around 25 different varieties of dishes
were prepared. There were special plates kept aside for me and Suraj! 'How embarrassing,' I
thought! We all had our food together at the table. I got a chance to meet all the family members
including the extended ones. They were all talking very politely to me. We were all talking, giggling,
laughing loudly, making fun of each other! I was now feeling comfortable in the house. All this while,
I didn't even get a chance to take a glance at Suraj.
"Welcome to the family, wifey!" Suraj whispered in my ears when no one was paying attention
toward us. I smiled at him and held his hand to say thank you.
As the day passed by, more number of guests visited to congratulate us. All that we were doing was,
to greet the guests and talk to them for a couple of minutes. At last, the inrush of guests stopped and
we got some peaceful time.
Most of our relatives had also left, leaving only the close family members. I was resting on the couch
when my mother-in-law said, "Why don't you go upstairs to your room and take some rest? You must
be tired?"
She then turned to one of her elder sister and asked, "Should we send her to the room? She is very
tired."
"Yes of course. Let her go," the lady replied.
Then, I was accompanied by Suraj's sister to my room. She left saying, "You take rest Rewa. I will
send bro in some time."
"Thank you," I gave her a smile and closed the door.
I was alone in the room, for the first time after the marriage! There was so much of a silence in the
room that I could hear my heartbeats. I sat on the bed and was looking around when someone
knocked at the door. I opened the door to find Suraj standing there. He entered the room and locked
the door.
"Finally we get some time together," he said lying on the bed.
I sat beside him and said, "I swear! These were hectic hours, weren't they? I am feeling so tired. I
will sleep as soon as I lie on the bed!" I was about to lie on the bed when Suraj got up, surprised!
"What? You want to sleep? Today is "the night" Rewa! How can you sleep? We can talk all night long.
I am waiting for this time since we met!"
"Yes Suraj, I understand your point. But, from today onwards we will be together everyday. We have
our whole life to talk. Today I am a bit tired and want to sleep."
"No you can't!" Suraj shouted and got up from the bed. I couldn't understand his reaction.
"What's wrong with you Suraj? I said we can do all the talking tomorrow, that's it!"
He grabbed my shoulder and pulled me out of the bed. I almost fell on the ground due to his actions.
He then pulled me closer to him and forcibly hugged me. Even I gave him a light hug and pulled
back. He didn't react this time around, and I went to the washroom to change. When I came out of
the room, I found Suraj standing right at the washroom's door.
"What happened Suraj? Please let me go to bed." Saying this, I walked past him.
He grabbed my hand from behind and shouted, "No, you are not going anywhere dear."
He pushed me towards the wall and forcibly kissed me. There was no feeling of love in that kiss. It
was forced. He kept his lips pressed on mine for a long time. All this while, I tried to push him but he
didn't stop. Finally, he pulled back and as I was about to speak something, he forcibly started kissing
me. This time, more aggressively. I was scared by his actions and opened my mouth to shout. He
pressed his hand on my mouth, really tightly. He, then went on to force himself on me for a long time
and when I protested, he slapped me! I was crying and begging him to stop but he had turned into a
maniac. He continued to force himself on me till the time he was satisfied. Once, he was tired, he
pushed me to the wall. Then, he got all dressed up, brushed his hair and walked out of the room.
I hit my head on the wall and had a cut on my forehead. I was trying to console myself after
whatever had happened. I looked around the room, it was in a mess. Broken flower vases, torn bed
covers, all my jewelry was lying on the floor. This was the same room where my married life was
going to become beautiful, half an hour ago, and now, it was witness to the worst moment of my life.
I tried to get up a couple of times but fell on the ground, every single time. Finally, I pressed my
hand on the wall and got up. I was in pain that was killing me.
I walked to the washroom to freshen up. I looked into the mirror and saw that my lipstick was all
over my face with my eyeliner dripping on my cheeks. My clothes were torn and I had cuts and bites
all over my body. I was shaken by the incident. Tears started to roll down my eyes. My first night
after marriage was supposed to be a happier one, but I ended up getting raped!
