2. • The BMI is a measure of weight based on
height and is used by health professionals
to determine if an individual is at a healthy
weight. It is calculated using weight in
kilograms over height in meters squared.
However, if you know your weight in
kilograms and your height in inches, a very
easy conversion will allow you to
determine your BMI.
3. • Write down your weight in kilograms. If
you only have it in pounds, divide that
number by 2.2 to get the reading in
kilograms.
4. • Multiply your height in inches by 2.54.
Then divide that number by 100. This will
convert your height to meters, which is
needed to determine BMI.
5. • Multiply your height in meters by itself, or
square it. For example, if it is 1.75 meters,
calculate 1.75 x 1.75 to get the final number
you will need to plug into the BMI
equation.
6. • Divide your weight in kilograms by your
height in meters squared. This number is
your BMI.
7. • Compare your final number to these
ranges:
Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
