Sanjeev from Gartner and my colleague Mark joined me as we explored the topic of REST APIs for enterprise databases. I added a script so that you guys can follow some of my slides. In this webinar we spoke about the following:
1. Why you should RESTify your database
2. What OData is and what’s new in the latest ISO-approved version
3. Different options for REST-enabling your databases
Mark also gave a demo of producing OData using our hybrid connectivity solution - Hybrid Data Pipeline. Here are some of the popular databases that you can rest-enable using Hybrid Data Pipeline:
1. Big Data: Amazon EMR Hive, Apache Hadoop (Apache Hive), Cloudera CDH Hive, Hortonworks, IBM BigInsights Hive, MapR Hive, Pivotal HD Hive
2. Relational: Amazon RedShift, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL Community, MySQL Enterprise, Oracle, Pivotal Greenplum, PostgreSQL, Progress® OpenEdge®, SAP Sybase
3. SaaS/Cloud: FinancialForce, Force.com Applications, Google Analytics, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft SQL Azure, Oracle Eloqua, Oracle Sales Cloud, Oracle Service Cloud, Progress® Rollbase®, Salesforce.com, Salesforce1Lightning, ServiceMAX, Sugar CRM, Veeva CRM
REST APIs have grown exponentially over the past decade thanks to the rise of SaaS applications and highly integrated microservices / polyglot architectures. Organizations are adopting REST API strategies to better integrate data assets with modern consumers across desktop, web and mobile applications that leverage modern languages such as javascript, angular, ruby, python, nativescript, etc.
