Plot It starts on a beautiful day with Lord Henry Wotton observing the artist Basil Hallward painting the portrait of a handsome young man named Dorian Gray. Dorian arrives later and meets Henry. After hearing Lord Henry's world view, Dorian begins to think beauty is the only worthwhile aspect in life, the only thing left to pursue. When Basil’s painting was finished, Dorian cursed it, because one day, it will just remind him of what beauty he had. He pledged his soul on the painting if it could be the one to age and rot of sins, allowing him to stay young, forever. Over the next few weeks, Lord Henry’s influence over Dorian grows stronger. Dorian becomes a disciple of the “new Hedonism” and lived a life dedicated to the pursuit of pleasure. He falls in love with Sibyle Vane, and proposed to marry her, but then breaks
his engagement with her because she lost her ability to act. After doing so, he returns home to notice that his face in Basil’s portrait of him has changed, it now sneers.Frightened that his wish has come true. He wanted to make amends to Sibyl, the next day. The following afternoon, Henry brings news that Sibyl has killed herself. Dorian decides to consider her death a sort of artistic triumph. He hid his portrait in a remote room of his house, where no one can watch its transformation and continued his life of pleasure.18 years have passed , Dorian’s reputation suffers in circles of polite London society, where rumors spread regarding his scandalous deeds.  He shows Basil the hideous portrait, and Hallward, horrified, begs him to repent. Dorian claims it is too late to repent and kills Basil in his rage. Dorian went to London’s opium dens, he attempts to express his regrets to Lord Henry. Dorian repents for his crimes hoping his picture would go back to its original form, but seeing it more rotten and old, he stabs his portrait, thereby killing himself.
