This document defines and provides units for key terms used in the study of transverse waves: wavelength is the distance between crests or troughs and is represented by λ; amplitude is the height of crests or depth of troughs and is represented by a; frequency is the number of waves passing in one cycle and is represented by f; and wave velocity is the distance travelled by the wave in one second and is represented by v. It also presents the relationship that connects these terms: wave velocity equals wavelength multiplied by frequency, or V=fλ.
