Activity Proper Properties of a Roots  It is the main part of a word  Must be at least one in one word.  Word part from which other words grow, through addition of affixes. Free roots- can stand alone to function as words. Ex.: recollect, bilingual, international, attractive Bound roots- cannot stand alone to function as words because they are no longer used in Modern English. Ex. : receive, reduce, internet Properties of affixes -Subordinate part of a word There are two kinds of affixes and these are prefixes and suffixes. o Prefixes- these are the words that is added to beginning of a word. o Suffixes- these are the words that is added to the end of a word. 2 kinds of Suffixes o Grammatical/ Inflectional Suffixes o Derivational Suffixes
