It has over 42000 diesel generator sets operational at its sites as A
consequence of which environment management and safety are
areas that require continuous focus.

company has a significant
carbon footprint thus needs
to manage its environmental
performance better.
• ISO 14001 lays down the
guidelines for an
environmental management
system.

enables improvement in
environmental performance
through more efficient use
of resources and reduction
of waste.
OHSAS18001
• The company has ground
based towers with 40 m
towers and roof top towers
with 12-18 m towers and a
wide array of electric and
electronic equipment at the
sites.
• Hence to ensure
occupational health and
safety system and to ensure
safe environment existed
both at the sites and in the
offices for the workforce,
vendors, suppliers and
customers to work in, the
OHSAS 18001 certification
was implemented.
4. Implementation of the process
Implementation was
owned and driven by the
Corporate Business
Excellence (BE) team.
The company is
organized into four
geographic regions
Every region has one
senior BE resource as a
mentor and supervisor
of the implementation
process in the region.
Each region comprises
of 3-4 circle, each circle
being a business unit
responsible for a P&L
account.
Verticals such as business
development, site
acquisition, project,
operation and
maintenance, finance and
SCM were involved.
The team was put
through an intense ISO
certification programme.
A Kick off meeting
presided by the business
circle head was
organized.
Each vertical started the
process of implementing
the certification process
with the guidelines for
implementation given.
Corporate BE team carried
out audit of the
implementation process to
identify the gaps and to
ensure no aspect slipped
through the cracks.
5. Implementation of the process
Certified vendor base was
created for activities such
as used lubricant oil
disposal and PCB
certification of diesel
generator sets
Operations and
maintenance vertical
prepared ten model sites
for inspection by the ISO
certification third party
auditors.
A meeting presided by
the business head was
held to review the
implementation of the
certification
The implementation
process was then audited
by the ISO certification
third party auditors over
two days
The audit was held at each
circle location and at the
corporate.
The audit process
comprised meetings with
each vertical team, audit
of the relevant documents
and site visits.
Based on the audit a
certification report was
prepared.
The Organisation next
was declared Certificate
complaint
