1. LISTENING AND DOING
• To acquire English by listening to instructions.
• To be active and enjoy doing things in English.
• To use non-verbal clues (E.g gestures) to interpret meaning.
• To get used to understanding general meaning.
• To prepare for spoken interaction.
• To absorb good pronunciation and intonation patterns.
TYPES OF ACTIVITIES
• 1-. Giving instruction in English.

• 3-.Listening and doing- Total Physical Response.
• 4-.Listening and performing-miming.

1.1. GIVING INSTRUCTION
Our aim is to teach them English, not to be quick.

• Talk to the children about the things you want them to learn the name
• Ask the children to point to or show you the things when you name them.

Tips for the teacher:
The first time you use TPR you can explain in the
mother toung.
If you have a large class divided up in groups.
The group waiting will be watching the activity, so
will still be learning.
Follow the líder.

1.4. Listening and performing - miming
Revising and consolidating topic words through mime
Miming /TPR activities
Listen carefully when you describe what they
have to mime.
Decide how to perform what you describe.
Need some thinking time.
Teaching tips:
Give young learners one instruction at a time.
Increase the number of instructions in a sequence as
learner's progress.
Make the activities simpler or more complicated.
Using real things can make the mime more realistic.
Play a game like statues.
Use mime as a speaking activity.
Rhymes and chats
Teaching tips for physical breack chants:
Use a picture to help children to understand the
meaning of the words.
Use Movements and gesture to help them to enjoy
the chant.
1.5. Listening and responding games
 These games help children have fun and make them listen.
Right or Wrong
• Example of a simple response activity.
• Explain something to the children. It might be right
or wrong.
Simon says
• We can play it inside or outside.
• Have a space where all the children can stand up.
• With big classes, we can choose actions that pupils
can do sitting down.
Teaching tips about listening and responding
• Make the instructions more complicated by asking the children to do two things at a time.
2. Listen and make
Listening and making involves:
• It is an ideal way for children to absorb more English.
• Helps interaction in English between teacher and pupils.
• Children have to make decisions.
How to prepare for “Listen and make” activities
We can do many things before beginning the lesson:
• Collect the things we need to show the children what to do.
• Practise explaining in English what they have to make and how they have to make it.
How to set up “Listen and make” activities
• Explain the topic to the class in English and show them what they are
going to do or make.
• While they are colouring and making their things, go round and
comment in English on what they are doing.
2.1. Listening and colour
• We have to make sure that all children have colours, crayons, markers, etc.
Teaching tips about listening and colour
• Display all the children’s work on a wall chart or on the walls.
• Comment positively on each child’s work as we take it and put it up on the wall.
2.2. Listen and draw
• We know children can draw by themselves
without istructions.
• Aim  get children to listen to some
instructions in english

• Describe a picture.
• Drawing games

• Repeat the instruction clearly
• Compare pictures and then color them
• Go around and talk to them in English as
they color and coment on their work.
2.3. Listen and make
• Children can use Clay, paper, card…
• Funny for special occassions: birthdays,
christmas, easter, mother’s and father’s day
• Tell the children what happens during the
celebrations in other countries.

  • 3. 1. LISTENING AND DOING • To acquire English by listening to instructions. • To be active and enjoy doing things in English. • To use non-verbal clues (E.g gestures) to interpret meaning. • To get used to understanding general meaning. • To prepare for spoken interaction. • To absorb good pronunciation and intonation patterns.
  • 4. TYPES OF ACTIVITIES • 1-. Giving instruction in English. • 2-.Listening and identifying. • 3-.Listening and doing- Total Physical Response. • 4-.Listening and performing-miming. • 5-. Listening and responding games. Listen & Do
  • 5. 1.1. GIVING INSTRUCTION Our aim is to teach them English, not to be quick. Gestures Sitting down and standing up. Moving around
  • 6. 1.2. LISTENING AND IDENTIFYING • Talk to the children about the things you want them to learn the name • Ask the children to point to or show you the things when you name them. Vocabulary development Grammatical awareness.

  • 8. 1.3. Listening and doing - tpr Total Physical Response The teacher: The pupils:
  • 9. Tips for the teacher: The first time you use TPR you can explain in the mother toung. If you have a large class divided up in groups. The group waiting will be watching the activity, so will still be learning. Follow the líder. Topic-based TPR TPR routines. TPR for arranging the class.
  • 10. 1.4. Listening and performing - miming Revising and consolidating topic words through mime Miming /TPR activities
  • 11. Listen carefully when you describe what they have to mime. Decide how to perform what you describe. Need some thinking time.
  • 12. Teaching tips: Give young learners one instruction at a time. Increase the number of instructions in a sequence as learner's progress. Make the activities simpler or more complicated. Using real things can make the mime more realistic. Play a game like statues. Use mime as a speaking activity.
  • 13. Rhymes and chats Teaching tips for physical breack chants: Use a picture to help children to understand the meaning of the words. Use Movements and gesture to help them to enjoy the chant.
  • 14. 1.5. Listening and responding games  These games help children have fun and make them listen. Right or Wrong • Example of a simple response activity. • Explain something to the children. It might be right or wrong.
  • 15. Simon says • We can play it inside or outside. • Have a space where all the children can stand up. • With big classes, we can choose actions that pupils can do sitting down. Teaching tips about listening and responding • Make the instructions more complicated by asking the children to do two things at a time.
  • 16. 2. Listen and make Listening and making involves: • It is an ideal way for children to absorb more English. • Helps interaction in English between teacher and pupils. • Children have to make decisions. How to prepare for “Listen and make” activities We can do many things before beginning the lesson: • Collect the things we need to show the children what to do. • Practise explaining in English what they have to make and how they have to make it.
  • 17. How to set up “Listen and make” activities • Explain the topic to the class in English and show them what they are going to do or make. • While they are colouring and making their things, go round and comment in English on what they are doing.
  • 18. 2.1. Listening and colour • We have to make sure that all children have colours, crayons, markers, etc. Teaching tips about listening and colour • Display all the children’s work on a wall chart or on the walls. • Comment positively on each child’s work as we take it and put it up on the wall.
  • 19. 2.2. Listen and draw • We know children can draw by themselves without istructions. • Aim  get children to listen to some instructions in english Activities • Describe a picture. • Drawing games “Teaching tips about listening and colour” • Repeat the instruction clearly • Compare pictures and then color them • Go around and talk to them in English as they color and coment on their work.
  • 20. 2.3. Listen and make • Children can use Clay, paper, card… • Funny for special occassions: birthdays, christmas, easter, mother’s and father’s day • Tell the children what happens during the celebrations in other countries. Activities • Making greeting cards. E.g. An easter card. • Make a posters.
