Review of the Taurus PT-25 Pistol in .25 ACP - Yahoo Voices

  1. 1. Review of the Taurus PT-25 Pistol in .25 ACP - Yahoo Voices The Taurus PT-25 is a small pistol designed for use as a backup gun for police officers and others as well as for concealed carry. The Taurus did fail to eject one round fired while dirty, but after a good cleaning it functioned flawlessly. The sights on the Taurus were pleasant to use. What matters in the performance of a pocket pistol, and any self defense pistol in general, is reliable functioning. The Federal load fires a 50 grain full metal jacket bullet. However, sights and accuracy are of little importance with a pocket pistol. Due to recently being offered a number of guns for a great price, I have become the owner of a few different .25 ACP pistols. Though both the .32 ACP and .380 Auto are superior cartridges in ballistics than the .25 ACP, if price is a concern a pistol in .25 ACP might be a good choice. The .25 ACP is hardly a great personal defense round though it is certainly better than nothing. The PT-25's trigger was surprisingly good, it felt good to the hand, pointed well, and is a good looking gun for a pocket pistol. . At 10 yards the Taurus PT-25 shot groups of about 3 inches. Whether or not this is true, the .25 ACP remains a popular handgun cartridge that is commonly encountered and can be found quite inexpensively. In terms of energy, .25 ACP provides less power than even the .22 Long Rifle! While once wondering aloud why the .25 ACP continues to exist, I was told that the .25 ACP is commonly used in small pistols as the cartridge feeds quite reliably. After a quick look down the barrel (made easy by the pop up design) the pistol was fired dirty to test reliability. The Taurus PT-25 currently costs about $220 with used models being available for significantly less. http://best45pistol.org/shooting-tips/ While the Taurus PT-25 would not be my first choice for a personal defense gun, even as a backup, due to the chambering, it does seem to be a solidly made and reliable pistol. The Taurus PT-25 is a pocket sized pistol chambered for the .25 ACP (also referred to as the .25 Auto). http://www.taurususa.com/pistols.cfm My primary concern in using the PT-25 for self defense is more a matter of concern for the cartridge than the gun. The used pistol came to me looking like it had not been cleaned or fired in many years. At about 12 ounces and measuring just over 5 inches long and just over 4 inches high, the small Taurus fits the bill as an easy to conceal pistol. http://www.gunsinternational.com/9mm-Pistols.cfm?cat_id=154 The Taurus PT-25 was fired for accuracy and functioning with some old Federal ammunition that came with the guns
