36. CASE STUDY 1
4/5/2019 36
There is a boss in Awesome Inc who likes the
meetings to be strictly business only. During one of
the meetings, some of the team members started
cutting jokes and talking on phone. This really
disturbed him.
However, not everyone shared this thought with
him. Some of the guys were not happy with his ‘to-
the-point’ approach as they wanted the meetings
to be an opportunity to socialize and be fun-filled.
• What type of personalities are these?
• How should they accommodate each other for a
better relationship?
37. Awesome Inc was organizing its AGM. For that grand meeting,
they assigned various tasks to the team. Procedures were
agreed for each team to function. However, it was identified
that during the execution of the meeting, some of the
procedures were not followed. This made some of the
employees really angry (though the AGM at the end went very
well).
Some of the team members wanted to change the procedures
‘on the go’ as they considered appropriate. The event
manager for the AGM also wanted a ‘to-the-point’ approach
to the whole effort. This disappointed some of the people
who wanted more fun from the this activity.
There was another group of employees who were also not
happy with this but they tried to maintain relationship with
both sides and tried to resolve the matter.
• What type of personalities are these?
• How should they accommodate each other for a better
CASE STUDY 2
37
38. CASE STUDY 3
4/5/2019 38
A departmental manager in Awesome Inc is
required to make a decision. For that, he is
convinced about what should be the right solution.
However, as he sees that some of the team mates
may not feel good about that decision, he is taking
a life-time to decide. At the end, he has given more
weightage to the feelings and emotions over the
company’s success.
• What type of personality is he?
• How could this decision making process be
improved?
39. CASE STUDY 4
4/5/2019 39
There is a manager at Awesome Inc who is
extremely disciplined and serious at the workplace
– very much to the point all the time!
However, the same person when with his family is
often a very jolly person. His wife can’t believe that
he is such a strict man at work.
• What could be the reason for this?
• What should that person do?
• How should those who interact with him adapt
to this?
40. CASE STUDY 5
4/5/2019 40
There was a person who used to work in Awesome
Inc’s Melbourne Branch. He was one of the poorest
performers in the state. But then he got transferred
to Perth and became a shining star! How on earth
is it even possible!
• What could be the reasons for this?
41. 4/5/2019 41
Have you seen any people
that act differently in different
situations, different times or
different places?
Give some examples.
Why do you think they
behave this way.
GROUP ACTIVITY 3
42. Behaviour = Function (People, Environment,
Perceptions, Experiences, Personality, Emotions)
4/5/2019 42
When being ANNOYED about a behaviour, ask yourself:
“Why would a sane person do that?”
In answering that, consider the factors above!!
43. A RED FLAG
1. People are a complex mix of all four
colours. They cannot be labelled as a
‘certain type’.
2. People react different according to the
situations, perceptions and emotions
involved.
3. Stereotyping is based on invalid
assumptions and generalization that
reduce our ability to appreciate and
leverage diversity.
4/5/2019 43
44. KEY LEARNINGS
1. People react differently because of their personality types as
well as other factors that govern behaviour.
2. When getting annoyed, still consider them to be rational
and ask yourself what could have led them to behave that
way.
3. Understand the personality types and try to accommodate
them in your behaviour
4. Observe, but don’t judge!
5. No one has it all together, but together we have it all!
