4. People Family: A family maybe keen on a particular activity because of family traditions passed on through generations. Parents can have a massive impact on a child’s participation in sport – how? A role model from within the family may be an inspiration to copy. Peers: Peers are people of a similar age. If you have peers who participate in sport you are more likely to get involved. Page 4 – positive and negative influences of peers. In pairs Discussion questions 1 Role models: Who is your sporting role model and why? Following a sporting role-model can be the result of an admiration for their sporting skill, personality or lifestyle.

Task 5 With a member of the opposite sex you need to complete the following task: Come up with 3 role models from your favorite sports and after discussion with your partner write down why they are your role models. One of your pair will be picked at random to feedback to the class about your role models.
