CLASSROOM OBSERVATION
I. MY LEARNING INTENT
Observation influence the way the teachers teach. It is an important part of learning how
to teach; an important part at every stage of the career of a teacher. For a newbie teacher,
classroom observation is done to see real-life teachers in their real-life teaching situations. It
helps the newbie to be exposed to pedagogical practices that might not occur to them
beforehand. Observation is also a direct means of learning about students about what they can
or cannot do and what they know or do not know. It also helps the teacher to know the behavior
and attitudes of the students.
The purpose of this study is to see the behavior and attitude of a student towards their
learning and to look at the classroom atmosphere. The students’ behavior would be observed to
determine the degree they demonstrate behavior skills that are important for students to adapt
with the changes in their learning process.
This observation will give me more understanding on how to deal with the students, help
me to think strategies that will be helpful to meet the needs and expectations of the students,
and reminds me that I need to build a good rapport with the students for us to feel comfortable
with each other.
II. MY OBSERVATIONS
The thought of doing this observation made me excited and hesitant at the same time.
Hesitant that I am doing this classroom observation; knowing that I am going to observe the
classes of my colleagues. I know some of them might feel not comfortable that I am observing
them. However, when they know that it is a part of my practicum and that was day they all knew
that I am taking PTC, they became considerate and gladly said that I may observe whenever I
want. They give me their support and told me whatever help I need for my professional growth,
their glad to help. I observed different classes of year levels in high school where am employed
as a librarian.

On the day of my observation, as I entered in each room, I was greeted a warm “Good
morning Ma’am”. They follow the rules in greeting the visitors and other classroom rules such as
asking for permission if they are leaving a room, keeping the room clean and in order. These
actions show their respect and accept responsibilities for actions.
I noticed that the students in pilot classes were more behaved than the students in
lowers sections. The class atmosphere of those in pilot and second sections were more warm,
open and accepting. The students’ participation is more active and lively. They are all ears to
what the teachers are discussing. During the recitation, when someone is called by the teacher
to answer, they stood up and give their answer. Almost of those called by the teachers answers
the questions correctly.
In lower sections, some of the students just remain seated when called by the teachers
and saying “I don’t know the answer, Ma’am/Sir”. Others are barely paying attention to the
lesson and some are chatting with their classmates, others have a blank face like their mind
was out of the classroom; it just that they are not bothered that they are being observed.
Each class has its own identity. One class I walked in was branded by the teachers as
the noisiest class. That class belongs to lower section. Though the teachers asked them to keep
quiet; a few minutes their quiet and next minute they starting to make a noise again. I asked
myself how I can handle that such behavior. Maybe I need a lot of patience to deal with them
and a motivation that arouse their interests.
There are students who are conscious knowing that they are being observed. Some are
quieter and some are more active during the observation.
I also noticed that each class showed different behavior in their subject teachers. When
the teacher is known for being strict, they are all behave and seems that most of them are afraid
to their teachers in Araling Panlipunan I and III and in MAPEH III and IV. With regards to their
other subject teachers, it seems that they are relaxed and feel comfortable with the discussion.

After my observation, some students approached me in the library and asked why I did
an observation. They are very conscious and told me that they are shy to ask me when I’m in
their room.
The observation showed different behavior of students towards their learning and how
they react positively and negatively in different classroom situation. It helped me to understand
better the behavior of students it exposed me to the real classroom situation.
II. MY REFLECTION
Each student has its own characteristic and behavior. Dealing with a great number of
students is a hard task. A teacher must determine the positive and negative ways of learning of
the students. A teacher must have a heart in his teaching profession; must be both passionate
and patient. To become effective teacher, you have to be passionate and make the students
feel that you care for them and you are willing to do everything for them to learn.
During the observation, I found out that nowadays, more students show lack of interest
in their lesson. To attend this problem, teachers must continue to make interesting activities and
to innovate strategies to stir up students’ interest in learning. In my practice teaching, I will be
creative, make the discussion lighter and integrate fun learning as possible.
It is also important that the students feel comfortable with the discussion. Establishing a
good rapport with the students will make them comfortable. If the students feel the genuine love
and concern for them, they will give respect in return no matter how they are comfortable with
the teacher. If you give attention and listen to the students needs, in return they will also listen
and follow you.
With the help of an effective teacher, the students will see the brighter side of learning
and gain interest in studying.

In my practice teaching, I am expecting that I will apply everything I learned from this
observation. I will establish a good rapport with my students. I will prepare various strategies
and activities that will make their learning interesting, fun and easy.
