The current study aims to develop a short but valid and reliable instrument for the examination of student accommodation preferences. This study draws upon the instrument developed by Khozaei et al. (2011), the student accommodation preferences index (SAPI). The construct validity of the instrument was assessed through an exploratory factor analysis using a principal components analysis with varimax rotation, by which 6 factors were extracted with 64 items. Because the questionnaire is lengthy, the current study aimed to develop a valid and reliable shorter version of the instrument to examine student accommodation preferences, thereby extending the previous work by collecting data from a subsequent sample. The confirmatory factor analysis and subsequent iterative process yielded a valid and reliable student accommodation preferences instrument (SAPI) with only 29 items. This is much shorter than the original 60-item instrument. The iterative process was performed by considering good measurement theory and retaining at least 4 items per construct. This shorter revised instrument has been shown to be both valid and reliable.

The aim of the study was to investigate the causes of low achievement from student’s points of view for both sexes by various levels and faculties.(106) students took place in the at Al-Ahliyya Amman University (AAU). A questionnaire was formed and applied, after its validity and reliability were verified. The study resulted in following points :- The weight of low achievement causes are moderate in four dimensions (Faculty member , students , methods of assessment, course content)while the weight of family factors dimension was high. There are no significant differences at the level of a≤ 0.05 in low achievement causes according to gender, the level of study and according to the faculty specialization in three dimensions (Faculty member , methods of assessment, Course content)while there are significant differences at the level of a≤ 0.05 in two dimensions (students and family factors )in behalf of engineering faculty) .

6 Standardized Testing Standardized tests can be defined as any form of test that is administered and “scored in a standard and consistent manner”, that makes it possible to compare the performance of individual and group of students. Standardized testing was first used in China to select candidates for the province bureaucracy. The UK adopted this form of testing in the early 19th century, and it spread from the UK to Europe and then America. Its spread was fueled by the industrial revolution. Standardized testing involves different types of testing. Some of the most common are “aptitude tests”, “achievement tests”, “college-admission tests”, “international comparison tests”, and “psychological tests”. Achievement test is a type of tests that is intended to assess the knowledge and skills that students have learned in school and determine their academic progress. They can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructors and the schools. (Education Glossary, 2015). There have been debates about standardized testing. Some are against the system while others are for the system. Standardized testing is responsible for narrowing of the education standard and curriculum. It reduces the growth of the students and does not focus on the social sciences, arts and talents of the students and thus it is a major killer of the student’s educational growth in terms of arts and social sciences. This does not help the student develop as an individual as much effort is put into passing the tests rather than build character of an individual. In this paper, we will look into the advantages and disadvantages of standardized tests. Pro and Cons of Standardized Tests The debate on the standardized tests ranges on several key issues. Some of these issues of contention are: firstly, the numerical scores on a standardized testing accurate, objective and useful evidence of performance? Secondly, are the standardized tests fair to all students? The other one is the use of standardized tests providing valuable information to improve instructional quality? Then do the advantages of standardized testing outweigh the costs or time spent in taking the tests? Lastly, do standardized tests focus too narrowly on few academic subjects? The benefit of the standardized tests is that the tests are reliable and objective measures of student achievement. Policymakers use the test to determine whether the laws and policies are working or not and to compare educational performance within the state. Multiple-choice tests are graded by machine, and thus, they are not subject to bias or subjectivity. Also, standardized tests are inclusive because their content is equal for all students. Using alternate tests for the minorities would be unfair and alienating them, according to former Washington DC, schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee. Thus, the use of standardized tests to assess the students is an equal measure of all students (ProCon.org, 2015). More importantly, .

COM 2204H Standardized Testing Problem Speech Outline Policy Proposition: A federal law should be passed that eliminates the requirement for K-12 students in the United States to take standardized tests. Definitions: 1. Standardized tests: A test administered and graded in a consistent manner. a. In California, we’re mostly familiar with the STAR program that administers some large-scale standardized tests for our state. 2. No Child Left Behind Act: Law passed in 2001 that established a requirement for students to be tested in reading and math during grades 3-8 and one time in high school. 3. Teaching to the test: devoting extra time and attention in the classroom to the skills needed on standardized tests Background: 1. When the No Child Left Behind Act was introduced in 2001, standardized testing became an important tool in evaluating both student and national progress in education. More pressure was put on students and teachers to perform well on these tests because it became the main way of determining a schools effectiveness. 2. In 2009, the Race to the Top program was introduced which would pit schools against each other, with the schools that have the best student test scores receiving increased funding. 3. The No Child Left Behind Act’s goal of reaching “100% proficiency on standardized tests by 2014” failed (ProCon.org). 4. In 2019, the Nation’s Report Card reported that in the last ten years proficiency scores in math and reading remained almost the same even though higher standards of academics were imposed (ProCon.org). 5. In March 2020, the Education Secretary temporarily waived the requirement for standardized tests for the 2019-20 school year due to the pandemic, stating that students should be “focused on staying healthy and continuing to learn” (ProCon.org). Inherencies Structural: Federal laws like the NCLB require standardized testing for students during most of their years in K through 12 education. An additional structural inherency that also should be noted is that there currently isn’t a law that mandates less standardized testing. Attitudinal: According to a poll conducted by Education Next, 66% of parents and 67% of the general public support testing (Henderson) because they believe that it measures the performance of schools and students well. Claims 1. High stakes testing has a negative effect on students’ mental health/performance a. Because of the laws and programs that tie incentives and punishments into standardized tests, there is an increasing pressure on students to perform well on these tests. This leads to anxiety, stress, sleeplessness, and other health issues in young children. b. A poll in 2019 by PDK international found that “50 percent of responding teachers see pressure on their kids to do well on tests” (Dean). c. “A pediatrician reports witnessing an ‘incredible’ increase in anxiety over five years.” During heavy testing months, “she sees a new patient each day complaining of stomach ac ...
