The G20 is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that works to address major issues related to the global economy. It was established in 1999 and meets annually with rotating chairmanship among members. The G20 nations collectively represent around 80% of global trade and investment. Issues addressed by the G20 include global economic growth, international financial stability, climate change, and international development. The 2020 G20 summit was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on empowering people, safeguarding the planet, and shaping new frontiers through innovation.

27. CHAIR ROTATION
As G20 is an informal forum which has no permanent staff of its own.
The G20 Presidency rotates between members except the European
Union.
The 19 countries are therefore divided up into five groups, with all but
one group having three members, the other having four.
Nations from the same region are placed in the, Group 3, Group 4
and Group 5.

and is selected from a different regional grouping of
countries.
After the 2008 debut summit in Washington DC ,
G20 leaders met twice A year : in London and U.S in 2009,
and in Toronto and south Korea in 2010.
The current (2020) chair was held by Saudi Arabia.
The 2021 summit is planned to be held in Italy.
