3. Big Raven
Big Raven by Emily Carr
painted in 1931
Big Raven by Emily Carr is a beautiful piece of work
that is created by using oil on canvas. Using oil on
canvas Emily Carr made a deep coloured painting
with value and texture that really makes this piece 3D.
I really like how you can see and feel the emotion
that is going on inside the painting, and how she
added a little bit of light in the background which
helps make the painting and the bird pop. Along with
value and texture I also like how she used more
neutral coloures and blended the lines together so
that everything is smooth, which I think adds to the
intensity of the painting. when I see this painting the
first few words that I think of would have to be
intense, dramatic and a little bit scary. It makes me
feel scared and a little bit unsettled inside , but at the
same time calm. This painting is definitely different
from other paintings that I have seen, but nether the
less I really like it.
4. The Little Pine
The Little Pine by Emily Carr
Painted in 111871-1945
Little Pine by Emily Carr is another one of Emily’s
amazing oil on canvas paintings. I really like how in this
piece she used colours to show the main focus in the
image, by making the focus brighter then the rest of
the painting. Another technic that she uses in this art
work that I really love (that she does for all the other
ones) is using value and texture because I feel like it
makes the paintings more interesting and allows others
feel the emotions that the artist want’s them to feel.
One of the things that I really like about Emily’s
paintings are the colours that she picks, I feel like they
match each other perfectly and help add to the feel of
the painting along with that they really work for each
other. When I look at this painting I feel very clam and
happy, it is a painting that can make me really relaxed
and chill.
6. Red field
Red Field by Ross Penhall
Painted in 2008
Red Field by Ross Penhall is a beautiful piece of art
that is created using acrylics. What I love most about
this painting and what really stood out to me is the use
of texture and value. The reason why I love the use of
texture that Ross Penhall used in this painting is
because it made everything look more realistic, and not
only that I think it also makes everything stand out.
And the reason why I love the use of value that Ross
Penhall used is because it also contributes to making
this painting more realistic looking, and separates one
tree from another. What I really think is the most
genius part of this painting is the colour scheme. The
reason why is because the red makes the green pop out
and attracts the eye to the focus and the painting it’s
self, for red is opposite to green there for they are
complementing colours and they work for each other
and makes each other pop. This painting makes me feel
happy and calm when I look at it.
7. Engagement
Engagement by Ross Penhall
Painted in 1959
Engagement is a amazing acrylic painting by Ross
Penhall. In this painting I really like how Ross
Penhall used texture to make things more realistic
and value to also make things realistic plus 3D,
interesting and to show where the light is hitting,
but not only that organic and round shapes to
make the painting more soft. I also like how he
added the shadows under the trees to give it a
more realistic feel and the gradient light coming
out of the clouds which I think is really pretty.
This is one of my most favorite paintings by Ross
Penhall because it makes me feel happy and the
colourful trees remind me of lollipops. When I
look at this painting I feel really happy and bright,
but also calm and relaxed.
9. Walking Alone
Walking Alone by Ted Harrison
Painted in 1999
Walking Alone by Ted Harrison is a bright colourful
piece of art made by acrylic on canvas. I really like
Ted Harrison paintings because they always make
my happy with their variety of bright colours and
dramatic changes from one colour to the next. The
thing that I really like about his art style is it’s
different and you can’t find it anywhere else. In this
painting I like how there are only two main colours
and the only colours used is the different shades of
the main colour. I really love the sky because of how
it is darker around the edges and it gradually gets
brighter in the middle where the sun is. Another
thing that I feel like makes this art work complete is
the use of organic shapes because I think it adds
something to the outdoors scenery What I find
makes this painting and the style very special is uses
value but in a different way other paintings do and
you can see the change from one colour to the next.
When ever I look at this painting I feel very happy,
calm and relaxed.
10. Dancing kites
Dancing Kites by Ted Harrison
Painted in 1922
Dancing Kites by Ted Harrison is a beautiful
piece of painting made with acrylic on canvas. I
really like how in this painting the artist brought
out the focus, the kites by making the
background darker and the focus brighter
because I think that it is a great strategy because
the first thing I saw is the beautiful colourful
kites in the center of the painting. I really like
this painting because it makes me feel calm,
relaxed and happy, but on the other hand when I
see this painting it also makes me feel a little bit
scared and intimidated.
