Meiosis involves two rounds of cell division following one round of DNA replication, resulting in four daughter cells each with half the number of chromosomes of the original cell. The first meiotic division has prophase I, metaphase I, anaphase I and telophase I. The second meiotic division consists of prophase II, metaphase II, anaphase II, telophase II and cytokinesis.
