26. HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGMENT Andrew James Ltd prides itself on delivering a quality service with no compromise towards ensuring the safety of our works and those that we come into contact with. The Industry we operate in is nothing but challenging in terms of protecting our workforce and those around us and as such we spare nothing in ensuring from conception to completion the planning and delivery of a project are undertaken safely. The Managing Director will ensure that regular safety audits are completed on schemes and reports issued to all parties. These reports are acted upon and closed out over agreed time periods. We will as a company embrace an open and honest policy in terms of safety with our workforce and clients ensuring that all concerns, trends and methods of improving delivery are bought to the table. All of our design work and consultation is undertaken with the CDM guidelines at the forefront of our decision making process, we offer method driven designs that consider the real risks and provide practical design solutions to manage them out. Regular safety training is completed to ensure that all operatives and supervisors are kept up to date with current legislation and best practice. We have adopted fully the CSCS, CPCS & NFDC training programmes. Plant and equipment is kept well maintained through the internal workshop and all electrical equipment is PAT tested periodically. Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared in-house by the safety team. Safety documentation is always job specific and authorised by a director. Generic Method statements and documents are a habit we avoid. Production never takes priority when safety is a consideration and consultation will always be available from the directors and senior managers within Andrew James Ltd to ensure the works we undertake are done so in the safest possible manner.
27. Andrew James has since its conception recognized its responsibility to reduce the impact of our activities on our immediate surroundings and, just as importantly, on the wider environment as a whole. This is now one of our company’s primary drivers and as such we have committed to working alongside the ISO registration system to ensure that Andrew James works towards ISO18001. We have become “Real” Approved and can now offer renewable energy solutions to our clients. Environmental Plans On most major projects we now routinely prepare an environmental aspect and impact assessment to identify any environmental impact that our activity may create. This assessment enables us to define and thus control the acceptable limits for emissions, minimum levels for recycling, any monitoring procedures and compliance with any legislation. Pollution Control Inevitably, our work brings us into close contact with people; their work places, where they live and where they play. It is therefore incumbent upon us to eliminate or at least minimise pollution and emissions from our work sites. By employing modern construction techniques with well maintained plant and equipment, we are able to limit/eliminate noise, vibration, dust, contamination, spillages, excessive carbon emissions etc. With well planned traffic management plans, we can also reduce disruption from excessive vehicle movements to and from site. Recycling Any responsible contractor has been able to recycle extremely high levels of materials off site (up to 85%) over many years. However their ability has been restricted by the economic and commercial pressures placed upon clients. Today clients now have the opportunity to commit wholeheartedly to recycling initiatives and Andrew James is able to help achieve their goals. On site segregation of materials regularly contributes to the sustainability of the project as well as providing cost reductions to the client. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGMENT
