Editor's Notes
Course requirements to S.C. public colleges and universities
The Commission on Higher Education (CHE) establishes the minimum course requirements for students who
plan to attend a public college in South Carolina. Some colleges require courses in addition to those listed below (see college catalogues for admission requirements).
English
Four units — Seminar Level or higher
Mathematics
Four units — including Algebra I (for which Algebra 1 Part One and Two may count together as a substitute, if a student successfully completes Algebra 2), Algebra 2, and Geometry. A fourth higher-level mathematics course is Probability and Statistics.
A capstone mathematics course should be taken during the senior year.
Laboratory Science
Three units — Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and any science for which Biology or Chemistry is a prerequisite
World Language
Two units— Two years of the same world language
Social Sciences
Three units — One unit of U.S. History is required; a half unit of Economics and a half unit in Government are
strongly recommended.
Fine Arts
One unit — One unit in appreciation, history or performance in one of the fine arts.
Elective:
One unit must be taken as an elective. Our students use the computer science class that is required for graduation as this elective.
Physical Education/ROTC
One unit — Physical education or ROTC
Both the graduation requirements and the 4-year college requirements (if needed) will be included on your IGP
