This document describes a sound-reactive art installation called Voicano. Voicano is a model volcano that changes colors in response to surrounding sound levels, starting faintly lit and colorless when quiet, and transforming to colorful lights following a fixed pattern as sounds increase in volume. Made from plastic, glass, electronics and other materials, Voicano is intended to gently encourage low volumes in public spaces like libraries and cafes, or to enhance interactions, serving as both a volume reminder and opportunity for fun.

Plastic, Glass, Arduino Leonardo,
LED lights, Iron wire, Breakboard,
Aluminum foil, Paper tape

5. Function_
Itʼs faint white as a romantic light,
when quiet; render itʼs color,
following a fixed light track, when
sounds around are getting louder.
To a certain volume, the colorful
lights fade out and the middle
white light beam will be evoked
and beam through the diamond.
Voicano can be used in any
public environment as a gentle
alert when people have to keep
their volume low, such as library,
cafe, restaurant...etc.
Voicano can also be used to
enhance peopleʼs interaction as
a fun interaction design.
