information that is from the outside world to reach our senses in the forms of chemical and physical
stimuli. In this first stage we must change the information so that we may put the memory into the
encoding process. Storage is the second memory stage or process. This entails that we maintain
information over periods of time. Finally the third process is the retrieval of information that we have
stored. We must locate it and return it to our consciousness. Some retrieval attempts may be effortless
due to the type of information.
4) Computer hardware is any physical device, something that you are able to touch and software is a
collection of instructions and code installed into the computer and cannot be touched. For example, the
computer monitor you are using to read this text on and the mouse you are using to navigate this web
page is computer hardware. The Internet browser that allowed you to visit this page and the operating
system that the browser is running on is software.
5) Software is an intangible entity that can perform certain tasks in a better way or that an human can't
do under normal circumstances. This itself becomes an advantage of software over manual process.
