Over 60 million children worldwide are homeless due to reasons such as parental death, neglect, illegitimate birth or family breakdown. China has particular issues with abandoned children due to its one-child policy, with 6 million women being called hurtful names for not bearing a son. In the US, about 7,000 children are left homeless each year. Globally, India has the highest number of homeless children at 18 million.

• 60 million kids in the world are homeless
• Some of the reasons kids are homeless are
that both parents died, neglect, illegitimate
birth, or family breakdown.

3. China’s Issue
• China has about 160 million new babies each
year.
• The “one child policy” was to keep population
down.
• 6 million women in China are called Lai-De or
Zheo-Di which means “next time bring a boy”
• There is an orphanage system but 2 in 5
babies die in orphanage.

4. US children
• 7,000 children are left homeless in the US
each year
• Two daughters were left alone in NY central
park
• Two other girls 3 and 9 were left unattended
for 10 days while parents were on a winter
trip
