• Dinosaurs were reptiles that lived
long ago.
• They were a group of reptiles that
could walk on land.
• Just like elephants and ostriches,
dinosaurs walked upright.
• Their name means “terrible
lizards.”
3. Palaeontologist
• Many dinosaur bones have been
found by farmers and rock
collectors.
• They get the help of an expert
to dig them up.
• These experts are called
Palaeontologists.

4. • In 1963 a farmer who
lived near the town called
Muttaburra in Queensland
found some weird looking
bones.
• The bones had been
scattered around the
paddocks by cows!

5. • The Muttaburrasuarus belonged to a
group of dinosaurs called ornithopods.
• They were plant eaters who walked
around on their back legs.
• They lived 100 million years ago.
6. Elliott
• In 1999 a farmer on a sheep station in
Queensland discovered a dinosaur
thigh bone.
• These bones came from the biggest
dinosaur ever found in Australia.

7. • The dinosaur was a huge
sauropod.
• It was a gigantic long necked, long
tailed, plant eater.
• They named the dinosaur Elliott
after the farmer called Dave
Elliott who found the bones.

There are probably millions of
dinosaur bones and footprints
around Australia waiting to be
discovered. Next time you are out
bushwalking, keep your eyes open!
