This document provides information about the course "Oral Communication in English". The main aim of the course is to improve students' oral communication skills in English, including their pronunciation. Students will be exposed to principles and techniques of effective oral communication. They will participate in language activities like discussions, simulations and role-plays to practice speaking spontaneously and fluently. Students will also learn public speaking techniques. The course assessments include a prepared dialogue, discussion session, interview project with transcription and analysis, a video making assignment, and a listening quiz.

Oral Communication in English
The main aim of this course is to improve students’ oral
communication skills in the English language. Students are
exposed to the principles and techniques of effective oral
integration. They are also introduced to specific exercises
in order to improve their English language pronunciation. In
addition, students are taught effective strategies in
communication and appropriate communicative skills to
enable them to speak spontaneously and fluently. They are
given the opportunities to interact in real life situations
through language activities such as discussions, simulations
and role play. Moreover, they are also exposed to public
speaking techniques and principles through exercises to

Instructions
1.Topics will be given 2 weeks in advance before the test.
The class lecturer/tutor will prepare and hand out the
topics. Topics chosen for this test are those covered from
Week 1 to Week 4.
2.Students are instructed to prepare a 10-exchange
dialogue and present the dialogue without looking at the
script.
3.Duration of 5-6 minutes is allocated for each pair.

Discussion Session (Interview Project) – Refer appendix
Mode: Group of 5 students
Instructions
1.In a group of 5, class tutor is to brief students on how to choose
topic/issue for the interview, types of questions and how to
responds to respondents’ answers. A list of 10 possible questions
on Basic Questions and 10 questions on a chosen topic/issue must
be prepared during this session. Together with the list is a
possible answer for each question.
2.Allocate 1 hour for discussion and brainstorming.
3.Each group is then required to present their discussion to the
class tutor on the topic/issue they chose for their Project. Guide
students on their Q&A list.
4.Duration of 15-20 minutes is allocated for each group.
