wickedness, deceit, lewdness,
an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.
All these evil things come from within
and defile a man.

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells;
for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. Rom 7:18
The top 20 atrocities in this list killed as many people as were alive on the earth in the 1500s
What does God say?
Love others and put them first
Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it Luke 17:33
… in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than yourself. Php 2:3
What does God say?
Die to live
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me Galatians 2:20:
What does God say?
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil… 1Ti_6:10
What does God say?”

Give, and it will be given to you…" Luke 6:38
What does God say?
Be willing to be last
… many who are first will be last, and the last first. Mark 10:31
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Php 2:4
He establishes his kingdom at birth
Each time the king cries out, he is obeyed.
The world exists for him.
He is the king, he is Number One.
Because there is none higher than himself, (proven by the fact that he is always obeyed) he is in the position of a god.
The baby is the center of the universe
The problem
We do not belong in the centre of our lives
That position is made only for God
The ultimate question
The question is this: Who is Number One?
The fleshly man says to God:
Who is first - Is it I or Thou? – I think it is I
Everyone subject to God
In relationship with each other
In every heart there is a cross and a throne, and each is occupied.
If Jesus is on the throne, my self is crucified and I obey Him.
But if my self is on the throne and is being obeyed, then Jesus is on the cross.
The self-centred man:
Puts himself first
Obeys his own will first
Looks to his own wants and needs first
Lives in conflict and competition with others
Dethrones/ignores God
Since he is on the throne, he claims God’s attributes as his own
The kingdom of self is a fleshly kingdom with its roots in what Lucifer wanted (and wants) to do.
The hunger to be “like the most High” is resident in every person.
The hunger to be “like the most High” is in every person – it is the original basic sin of the Adamic world
It is this that Jesus came to destroy:
Joh_10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
You were still physically alive before you got saved, so the abundant life is more than the biological life
_____________________________
“rebellion is as the sin of divination, and self-will is as iniquity and idolatry” (1 Sam. 15.23 Darby)
Self will is idolatry – because we secretly worship ourselves
Trying to meet the Impossible Standard will always lead you to give up and look to God for help
If you tried and were honest:
you would find the standards impossible in your own strength and be driven to God
If you really tried to do it yourself and were honest:
you would find the standards impossible in your own strength and be driven to God
The law was designed to make us fail and run to God.
It did not work with the Pharisees.
Just when the Pharisees were happy that they were keeping the law (having brought down the standard),
Jesus said: “You heard that it was said… but I say unto you…”
You are dead to the law – imagine trying to impress someone but you are dead ….
Not your own life: HIS LIFE
Not your own strength: HIS STRENGTH
Your old life must die - and Christ’s life (not your old life made alive)must live IN YOUR LIFE in the form of the Holy Spirit
… knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. Rom_6:6
Why is there no condemnation for us?
Because Jesus … delivered us from this body of death
Because of the Father we are in Jesus.
He put us there
Jesus’ life becomes our life when we accept His sacrifice for us
Whose life is in the branch?
The vine’s life, of course
The branch does not have it’s own life (cut it off and see if it survives)
The vine can only remain alive while being attached to the branch
The life in the vine comes from the branch that feeds it and keeps it alive.
Note: … this life is in His Son
It is not merely a question of “What would Jesus do?” and then doing it.
WWJD is only an indication of what we ought to do
You can decide to do what Jesus would have done, but that does not prove your heart has been changed.
You may have done “What Jesus would have done” because Tim was watching you ;-)
Jesus showed the disciples His scars after His resurrection – and He still has them (… they will know Him by the scars)
In the same way, your scars wounds that you receive (in your heart and body) in this fallen world while continuing to trust in Him:
qualifies you for work in the Kingdom
draws us to Him for comfort and healing
will be for glory in the next life
… if we surrender to Him
As long as you are surrendered, God can prune or discipline as He sees fit
"GOD RESISTS THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. “James 4:6
YOU DO NOT WANT GOD TO RESIST YOU: He specializes in hard cases like you and me
Read “Secrets of the vine”
He does not want you to be spoilt rich kid with a rotten attitude - You don’t want that for your children either
Remember: God wants you to prosper as your soul prospers. By that He means your heart comes first – your comfort after …
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3Jn 1:2
Your soul must prosper first – then the rest of your life can prosper …
Seek ye first the Kingdom… and all these things will be added
Story of how lifeguards are trained
How long do you want to try and stay afloat by yourself?
It is merely acknowledging the truth that He lives in us
Recognise God as being intimately present in you
He knows:
your every thought
all your fears
All your secret sins and desires
Involve and acknowledge Him in every area of your life
Expect His power and love in every area of your life
Ask His help in every situation
Speak to Him all the time in your heart
Share your intimate secrets with Him – He knows anyway!
Keep your mind focused on Him
When you are distracted by anything, look to Him again as soon as you realise it without feeling guilty.
Say to Him something simple like
“Abba, I am yours”
“My Father, I love You!”
“Lord, I am yours always”
or like I do:
“Sorry I forgot You Lord, here I am again!”
Do it 100 times a day
It is a habit to be learnt
It is true anyway that God is in you – we just forget
Decide to keep your heart and mind set on Him
Constantly keep the eyes of your soul fixed on Him
Give Him your attention
Give Him your adoration and praise
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you.
You don’t have to speak out loud -He is nearer than you can imagine
Even the smallest remembrance will please Him
– especially in the middle of something you are very busy with
He loves to hear it!
He rejoices to hear it.
Put off the old man by surrendering our self-centered wills to Him and choosing His will
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds Col 3:9
Crying for help is in itself an act of humilityit is an admission that we are not all-powerful
… all who call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved
The more we give up parts of our life to Jesus, the more His life invades ours.
