2. Inspiration
You should have now
studied artists as well
as taken photos and
created drawings of
your chosen Natural
Form theme. You need
to use these as
inspiration to create
your design pages in
your sketchbook
3. Methods – How will you create your sculpture?
There are many different methods that you can use to create clay
structures. You can create moulds, throw clay on a potters wheel or
hand build.
You are going to be hand building your structure. It is important that
before you create your design you understand the different methods
you will be able to use.
4. Slab pots
To create a slab pot you roll out the
clay. You cut a base and then
attached your rolled slabs of clay to
create a structure. There are
several ways you can do this as you
can see from the images.
5. Coil pots
To create a coil pot you cut a base and roll
out coils of clay to build your structure.
You can create many different shapes as
you can see from the images.
6. Which pot should be created using the coil
pot method and which one with the slab
pot method?
13. What you need to have in your sketchbook
1. A page of sketches of a variety of
shapes you could use to create your
ceramic piece.
• At least one (but better with two)
well drawn out final design ideas
that you have clearly labelled
