Cotton arrival picks up, so does price

Following spell of inclement weather, cotton arrival has started picking up in the
regioni s markets and so have its prices. The north Indian region has already
witnessed arrival of 40 lakh bales, while prices virtually are touching Rs 2,300 per
quintal here.
Talking to The Tribune, ex-Chairman of the North India Cotton Association, Ashok
Kapoor, said prolonged spell of bad weather and Assembly elections had brought
cotton arrival to a halt in the second week. He said tempo of fresh arrival was building
up, gradually as big farmers were holding back stock anticipating a rise in price. He
said possibility of export demand and declining availability might give further push to
prices in near future. On the north Indial
bales, he said the region s production would fall short by three lakh bales. Attributin
the shortfall to Haryana and Rajasthan, he said by January 31 Punjab witnessed an
arrival of 20.5 lakh bales, Haryana – 12 lakh bales and Rajasthan – 6.5 lakh bales. He
said prices of good quality cotton were hovering around Rs 2,300 per quintal at
present. He denied the ginners had earned much profit, as cotton prices were about
Rs 1,900 per quintal in the mid-season. “Ginners only gain when the market has wild
fluctuation in prices,” he added. Meanwhile, market sources said local market today
witnessed cotton arrival of 1,280 quintals and highest price it fetched was Rs 2,290

2. per quintal.
Surprisingly, farmers here did not mind selling their produce at low prices a few
months back. Mr Kaka Singh of Gehri Bhagi village says: “We are small farmers and
we can t afford to hold back our stock till the end of season. We are happy with wha
we got earlier.” Atma Singh of Shergarh village said he had brought his last
consignment of cotton and was happy in the wake of prevailing prices. “Last time I
sold my cotton at Rs 1,915 per quintal, but we stand to gain nothing by lamenting it
as we had no other option.”
Jalandhar too had experienced R chemical’ bomb blasts

Jalandhar, February 20
According to initial reports, the militants used `pipe' or `chemical' bombs in the two
coaches of Delhi-Attari Express on Sunday night. Almost similar blasts had taken plac
in two buses at Jalandhar bus stand last year.
Had the Punjab police shared the information with Central security agencies about the
nature of blasts that took place in the buses last year, the explosion in the Samjhauta
train could have been averted and 68 precious lives could have been saved.
When contacted, the then Jalandhar SSP (now posted as DIG Ludhiana), Mr Ishwar
Singh, told The Tribune that the district police had informed the DGP (Intelligence
Wing) about the new method used by the militants in explosions.
Two Punjab Roadways buses were gutted in fires after blasts at the local bus stand on
April 28 and May 14 last year. While at least four persons were killed and 13 injured i
the former blast, however no causality was reported in the latter blast as the
passengers had alighted from the bus to ease themselves at the bus stand.
While earlier, the district police had denied any militant hand behind the fires in the
buses, however later in a press conference on June 17 last year, the then SSP, Mr
Ishwar Singh, admitted that the blasts were acts of sabotage carried out by Ranjit
Singh Neeta's Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF).
The revelation was made after the arrest of one Satnam Singh Satta, an operative of
the KZF, from Shahkot.
Mr Ishwar Singh said instead of using the common RDX or any other top-end
explosive, the KZF used a low-potency mixture of sulphur, potassium, potassium
permanganate and sulfuric acid capsules to affect the blasts. A pipe was filled with the
chemicals and put inside the two buses. The subsequent chemical reaction, occurring
within a timeframe, created the blasts and damaged the buses.
The then SP, Mr Opinderjit Singh Ghumman, said in the press conference that the
accused, Satta, had made a trip to Pakistan where he received training in subversive

3. activities. Satta also visited Uganda, the SP added.
Cremation of unidentified bodies: 54 more identified

The Punjab Human Rights Commission (PHRC) has identified 54 out of 814 more
bodies which were cremated as ‘unidentifieda in three cremations of Amritsar , Tarn
Taran and Majitha during decade of 1984- 1994 .
Justice Shivraj V Patil , a former Supreme Court Judge and Acting Chairperson , of the
NHRC reveated it to The Tribune here today . He was here in connection with 49th
convocation of DAV College.
In another significant development , the NHRC has started taking suo motu notice on
vioation of human rights by the Army . Finding such violations, the NHRC writes to the
Ministery of Defence and the Union Home Ministry for appropriate action against the
“guilty Army personnel”.
The NHRC has already awarded Rs 1.75 lakh to the next of kin of 1051 deceased , for
the violation of dignity of dead, in the Punjab cremation case.
The commission undertook an inquiry into the cremation of 2097 (on re-examination
2059) bodies in three crematoriums of Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Majitha during
1984-94 from human rights perspective on a Remit from the Supreme Court of India
with a awarding compensation to next of kin of the deceased in deserving cases.
During the course of inquiry, the CBI on the directions of the commission submitted
three lists - List ‘Ai showing 582 out of those 2097 deceased as fully identified, 278
as partially identified and 1237 as unidentified dead bodies.
Answering a question, Justice Patil said the government had been dilly-dallying on
compensation to the kin of the victims. However, it (government) promised to clear
the payments by March 31 this year. He said main objective of the Human Rights
Commission was to apply balm on wounds of the persons who underwent agony in th
past by providing speedy relief.
The NHRC mooted the five-point charter to streamline the commission. Elaborating it
he said there was need of a vigilant society, dedicated NGOs , committed citizens ,
pro-active judiciary and enlightened media to improve the NHRC .
Justice Patil also emphasised the need of an investigation team on the pattern of the
Federal Investigation Agency to deal with inter-state cases. Justice Patil also
advocated speedy reforms of the Police Department.

4. The spirit of dosti’ survives blasts

The Sunday explosions in the Delhi-Attari Samjhauta Express failed to dampen the
spirit of the Pakistani and Indian passengers of ‘Sada-e-Sarhadl and ‘Dostin buse
being run between the two countries.
This was clear from the views of most of the passengers boarding both the scheduled
buses which halted as usual for a few minutes at Magnolia Tourist Complex in
Kartarpur on their way to their respective destinations on Tuesday afternoon.
An aged Nazir Ahmed Lamba was of the view that such type of hurdles would have no
adverse effect on the improving Indo-Pak relations.On the contrary, the relations
would further strengthen, he added. Mr Lamba was returning to his house in Gujarat
city of Punjab province of Pakistan after meeting his relatives in New Delhi. He
boarded Sada-e-Sarhad bus in Delhi on Tuesday morning to reach Lahore. “This was
my first visit to India and I can not forget the love I had been given not only by my
relatives but also by other Indians during my stay here,” he could not help his
emotions while talking to The Tribune. Echoing his sentiments, Mr Lamba's co-
passenger Mohammad Ismail Khalid said such blasts could not deter people of both
countries to visit across the border.
They would rather start visiting frequently in a large number taking it as a challenge
as they thought some forces were against the cordial Indo-Pak relations, he said.
Mr Khalid, his wife, Tabasum, and son Mohammad Khalid were returning to Lahore
after meeting their kin in Jama Masjid area of New Delhi.
Similar were the views of newly wed couple Nusrat Zehan (hails from New Delhi) and
her husband Rehan Mohammad. The couple too was going to Lahore. They
condemned the terror attack on the train.
In the same way, Mohammad Ismat, who boarded the ‘Dosti bus which started
from Lahore to New Delhi on Tuesday morning, said: “Allah Behatri Karega” (God will
improve the conditions). Mr Ismat of Haidrabad in Pakistan has come to India to mee
his relatives in Ajmeri Gate area of New Delhi. Mr Ismat's co-passenger, Ms Seema
Malik of Lahore, said people should not take such militant activities seriously. She
came to India with her family members in connection with a tennis tournament in New
Delhi.
The Delhi Transport Corporation's Sada-e-Sarhad bus ferried 46 passengers, including
29 Pakistantis and 17 Indians, whereas Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation's
‘Dostii bus carried 41 passengers, including 37 Pakistanis and four Indians.
While ‘Sada-e-Sarhad4 bus halted between 12.40 pm and 1.05 pm, ‘Dostin bus
halted between 1.20 pm and 1.25 pm on their destinations to Lahore and New Delhi,
respectively.
Launched in 1999, Sada-e-Sarhad bus service was suspended after the 2001
Parliament attack. However it was re-started on July 11, 2003.

5. The DTC runs service from Delhi on every Tuesday and Friday while the PTDC
operates on every Wednesday and Saturday.
On return journey, the DTC bus leaves Lahore every Wednesday and Saturday
whereas the PTDC bus leaves for Delhi every Tuesday and Friday.
Lahore bus leaves amid tight security

A day after two powerful explosions ripped through the trans-border Samjhauta
Express train at Deewana killing 67 persons on board, the road traffic at the Wagah
joint checkpost remained normal even as the Delhi-Lahore bus with 46 passengers on
board left for its Pakistani destination amidst tight security.
Out of total 46 as many as 29 Pakistani nationals and 19 Indians boarded the "Sada-
e-Sarhad" bus from New Delhi and left for Lahore by the land route.
Similarly, the Amritsar-Nankana Sahib bus also crossed to Pakistan, while two buses
crossed to Indian side. The security personnel resorted to a thorough checking of the
luggage as they did not want to take any risk. A bomb disposal squad also conducted
a thorough check of the buses.
The "Sada-e-Sarhad" bus service was re-started on July 11, 2003. The service was
launched amidst much fanfare on March 16, 1999. It was suspended on December 31
2001, after the December 13, 2001, Parliament attack.

Tourism Development Corporation operates buses on every Wednesday and Saturday
Debate on Punjabis in UK House

There are seven lakh Punjabis in the United Kingdom and they belong to all religions.
This was revealed during a debate in the British Parliament on issues facing the
Punjabi community in the UK.
There is an all-party group on Punjabis in Britain formed more than a decade ago.
This group is now headed by Mr John Mcdonnell, Labour MP.
While initiating the debate, Mr Mcdonnell said,L “We describe the group as the Punja
community group as it is a forum for discussion of issues that confront the Punjabi
community in Britian. But it also has a remit to examine issues in Punjab itself that

6. are of concern to the Punjabi community in Britain. In recent years, we have held a
series of conferences and community consultations and undertaken surveys of the
Punjabi community in Britain that have set the agenda and the work programme for
the all-party group.
Mr Mcdonnell said “The Punjabi community number 700,000 Parliament has a
responsibility to consider the interests of this group of British citizens, and to examine
the policies needed to protect the interests of this sizeable population of British
citizens and to enhance their quality of life.”

Temple vandalism: SSP’s transfer sought

Leaders of some organisations here have given an ultimatum to the Punjab
Government to transfer the local SSP before February 25 for alleged biased police role
in the case of vandalism at the Shiv temple on the eve of Mahashivratri at Rorian
village, failing which they would observe a bandh on February 26.
In a joint press conference here today, these leaders alleged that the police was
harassing all those persons, including women, who had agitated against the
desecration of the Shivlingam, idols and other things at the Shiv temple, Rorian.
These leaders included Mr Vikram Kumra, president, Aditya Vahani Punjab, Mr Ranjit
Rana, district president, Shiv Sena (Bal Thakare), Mr Bharat Bhushan Verma,
president, Rashtriya Vikas Party, Punjab, Mr Harish Khosla, president, Sri Shivratri
and Mahautsav Committee, Mr Manoj Sharma of the Bajrang Dal, Mr Krishan Gopal
Anand, president Sri Snatan Dharam Mahavir Dal, Mr Ashutosh Sharma, president,
Yuva Brahmin Sabha, and many other leaders of religious organisations
They alleged that the police raided the house of a woman at Rorian village around
1:30 am last night and rounded her up. However, she was released this morning on
the intervention of the local MP and MLA.
They further said a case had been registered for a minor dispute at Rorian village
against members of the Swarn community on February 2. After this incident, the
members of the Swarn community informed the police about the threats from a
section of Dalits. Had the police acted on the information the incident of vandalism at
the Shiv temple could have been averted.

7. Six persons had been arrested for vandalism at the Shiv temple and four under the
SC, ST Act. He said the police had acted impartially.
Meanwhile, Mr D.K. Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner, called a meeting of representatives
of all political parties, religious and social organisations in the evening to defuse the
situation.
Meanwhile, activists of the BSP, Ambdekar Sena, Dr Ambedkar Youth Club today held
a rally at Bajwara village in protest against the arrest of six Dalits.
Jarnail Singh — painter of Punjab’s cultural soul

History has its own way to settle a score. Way back in 1914, Baba Gurdit Singh, who
led a shipload of Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims to Canada, was not allowed entry in that
country. When Baba Gurdit Singh and others, who were sailing in the Komagata Maru
ship, that later became an important emotional symbol in the freedom struggle of
India, reached Vancouver, it was turned back by the Canadian authorities from the
port on racial grounds. Later, the ship returned to Calcutta via Hong Kong where the
then British Police fired at the occupants killing several of them.
Interestingly, now late Baba Gurdit Singh, his colleagues and the ship have become
an integral part of the history of Canada. A giant-sized mural of Baba Gurdit Singh
and the others in the ship adorns the front wall of the Senior Citizen Housing Unit in
Surrey, a British Columbia city where Punjabis live in thousands. The painting of
16x18 feet size is a tribute to the great spirit Baba Gurdit Singh and the others who
were unable to step on the Canadian soil.
A famous filmmaker recently announced a film, "Exclusion," on the Komagata Maru
episode and she has decided to engage superstar Amitabh Bachchan to play the role
of Baba Gurdit Singh.
And the painting has been done by one of the greatest Punjabi artists, Jarnail Singh,
who has settled in Surrey after leaving Chandigarh six years ago.Jarnail Singh is a son
of late Kirpal Singh, a famed founder artist of the Central Sikh Museum Sri Darbar
Sahib, Amritsar. Kirpal Singh has a unique place in the Sikh history as a painter of
Anglo-Sikh Wars and other important episodes.
Jarnail Singh, who has captured the soul and beauty of the Punjabis and their culture
in a most authentic manner, is on the Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Surrey
He is also a member of the Public Art Advisory Committee there. His works have been
recognised by Canadians in a big way. He grew under the shadows of his father, but
inspiration to paint the Punjabi culture came from late M.S.Randhawa, a patron of
Punjabi art and culture.
Quizzed about any impact of European life on his latest works, Jarnail Singh said his
subject matter had changed a little bit. "Earlier, I never painted landscapes.However,

8. of late, I have tried my hand on this subject and it has been recognised in Canada an
other countries. The mesmerising natural beauty of British Columbia has influenced
me to paint various lakes near Surrey,” he says.
He, however,has one little complaint to make. His father's 10-12 rare paintings on the
life of the Sikh Gurus have not been taken by the SGPC though a promise was made
in this regard long back.
Sale of synthetic milk goes on unchecked

The District Health Department made over 12 raids in the past to check sale of
synthetic milk in the district. The trade has been going on unabated as no action was
taken against the those selling synthetic milk have a field day in the district.
The Department said no action could be taken because none of the samples taken
during raids, failed the test. Several dairies were raided after reports of synthetic milk
being sold in the district came in. However, later the district health officer was
charged with having accepted bribe to let off the violators.
Civil Surgeon, Dr H. P. S. Sandhu said an inquiry into the allegations against the
district health officer was being conducted by the Director Health Services, as he was
the competent authority. The inquiry was on the Civil Surgeon ruled out foul play in
samples failing the test.
Investigations by The Tribune revealed sale of synthetic milk was going on unhindered
in the district. Synthetic milk is being bought largely by sweet shops for increasing
profit. Synthetic milk is available at almost half the price of pure milk. Other than
preparing sweets from synthetic milk these shops also use it to make cheese and
other milk products.
Health department experts said urea along with chemicals used for making detergent
are used to prepare synthetic milk. This milk can cause serious health problems can
also prove fatal in some cases.
Sources revealed synthetic milk was being prepared in villages adjoining border areas
of the district. Those in this trade have understanding with those buying it. Both are
benefited at the cost of health of people.
Holy verses to spread awareness about AIDS

9. Now first time in Punjab, verses from Guru Granth Sahib and Sikh religious leaders
have been roped in to spread awareness about AIDS. The first set of publicity materia
carrying holy verses from Guru Granth Sahib prepared by the Punjab State AIDS
Control Society with due consultation of Jathedar of Akal Takht, to control AIDS was
released at Gurdwara Takht Keshgarh Sahib here today.
The promotion material includes stickers depicting holy verses from Guru Granth
Sahib and the Dasam Granth. These stickers will be pasted at all religious places,
buses and trucks in the state.
As many as 5826 AIDS cases came to light in the state out of which 123 persons had
already lost their lives. While the actual figure could be more, we took the help of
Guru Granth Sahib and religious leaders as they can play a vital role in spreading
awareness about AIDS in their religious functions, said the joint director of the Punjab
State AIDS Control Society (A and T), Dr Daler Singh Multani, while taking to The
Tribune after the release of the publicity material by the Jathedar Keshgarh Sahib,
Tarlochan Singh.
“With initiative of Mr K.B.S Sidhu, project director-cum-secretary, Health, we had
submitted one phrase of Guru Granth Sahib to be used for campaign before the five
Sikh high priests headed by Jathedar Akal Takht, Joginder Singh Vedanti. However,
Jathedar Vedanti has provided us two more verses which we have been using in
campaign against AIDS, said Dr Multani.
RPF jawan cremated with state honours

Rajinder Kumar, a Railway Police Force (RPF) jawan who lost his life in bomb blasts in
Samjhauta Express in Panipat yesterday, was cremated today with state honours in
his native village, Quadian Gujran, in Dera Baba Nanak area.
A pall of gloom descended on the area as the body of martyr was brought to the
village. A contingent of the Punjab Police in the presence of local administration
reversed their arms to pay respect to the deceased RPF personal.
Rajinder Kumar had joined the RPF in 1989. He was the only brother of his six sisters
DPS students go missing; cops clueless

The police is yet to make a headway into the "disappearance" of two Delhi Public
School (DPS) students. Two hostellers of the school, Gurman Sandhu and Vinay Setia
both students of Class X and residents of Sirsa, went missing from their hostel on

10. Sunday night. The hostel warden reported the matter to the police, following which
the Nehianwala police registered a ‘missing pesonsr report.
Parents of the students today met the school authorities. The Nehianwala SHO said
police parties had been sent to various places to trace the missing students.
Two hurt in poll violence

In another case of poll-related violence, a man and his son belonging to the SAD were
seriously injured when they were attacked by seven persons at Danyal village, about
40 km from here this evening.
They were identified as Chuhar Singh and his son Manjit Singh. Doctors at civil
hospital attending on them referred tthem to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in
Amritsar.
Although Mr Manjinder Singh Kang, Akali candidate, alleged that they were attacked
by Congress workers, SSP Majitha Lok Nath Angra denied the involvement of police
personnel.
Farmer leaders’ houses · raided’

Mr Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan, general secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-
Ugrahan), today alleged the police had raided houses of farmer leaders at Dhaula and
Fatehgarh Chhanna villages the previous day to pressurise farmers to compromise
with the Trident Group on the issue of 376 acres in Dhaula, Fatehgarh Chhanna and
Sangherra villages (near Barnala).
He alleged the police also threatened families of farmer leaders either to compromise
with the Trident Group or be ready to go to jail.

Bail plea of minister’s son rejected

The additional District and sessions judge, Ms Harpreet Kaur, today rejected the
anticipatory bail application of Naresh Puri, a son of transport minister Raghunath
Sahay Puri.
Mr Naresh Puri was booked under sections 123-B, 130, 131 and 132 of the
representation of peopled s act, 1951, on the complaint of the assistant returning
officer Sujanpur, Mr Sanjeev Sharma, on February 13.
The assistant returning officer had alleged that Mr Naresh Puri, along with some of his
supporters came to a polling booth in the Shahpur Kandi area and created
pandemonium. He disrupted the normal course of polling and misbehaved with police
personnel present on duty. Two BJP workers, Rajinder Kumar and Mr Nikan Mesih,
were allegedly injured in assault by the ministerd s son.
11-year RI for raping minor

A 21 year old, sevadar Avtar Singh was today sentenced to 11 years rigorous
imprisonment for raping a four year old girl in the premises of a temple in Matour
village about one year ago by the Fast Track Court, Judge, Sukhdev Singh. The
accused was also fined Rs 3000, in a case of default of fine the accused has to
undergo one year more imprisonment.
The father of the girl who was working as labourer told the police that the girl was
playing outside the house along with other children when Avtar Singh, sevadar took
her into the temple in 2005. Later the minor girl was raped by Avtar Singh in temple
premises only.
Only after hearing the girl cry, a local resident of the area came to know about the
incident, he had provided the details to the police. The police registered a case under
section 376 of the IPC in this regard. The accused had run away from the spot but
later he was arrested from Balongi by the police.

Education revamp: All three DPIs shifted

The Punjab Government today undid its own two-month-old order and transferred all
three director public instructions (DPIs) of the Education Department.Chief secretary
K.R. Lakhanpal, today upturned the earlier order issued at the end of December, just
days before the model code of conduct was imposed in the state.
As per fresh orders, DPI (Secondary) S.S. Randhawa has been sent back to his place
of posting as deputy director, Sarv Siksha Abhiyaan.DPI (Elementary) Jagtar Singh
Khatra replaces him, while Abhiyaan deputy director Harinder Kaur Brar will be the
DPI (Elementary).
It may be mentioned that Randhawa was in the abhiyaan since June 2006 and shifted
overnight as DPI (Secondary) on the orders of education minister Partap Singh Bajwa
in December.
The then secretary,Education,T.R. Saranagal, had sent the file for formal permission
of the Chief Minister.
Since elections had been announced and Sarangal was holding a temporary charge in
the absence of regular education secretary Sarvesh Kaushal, he deemed it fit to send
the file to the Chief Minister.
The matter was referred to the personnel department also which brought out that
Jagtar Singh Khatra was the seniormost of the three.
Randhawa was shifted to the Sarv Siksha Abhiyaan in June on the basis of an inquiry
against him.
78 offered jobs at placement drive

A joint campus placement drive was organised at Indo Global Engineering College in
association with India Mart, Life Business Projects, Navish, Sterling Resorts, HCL and
NJ India Investments. About 970 students of engineering, MBA from 23 colleges of
Punjab and Haryana participated in the drive.
HRD Head LBP Mirdul Srivastav, HRD Head Sterling Resorts Pawan Sharma, Ashish
Trivedi HRD Manager HCL and Rajnesh Bhua from N J India Investments organised
presentations about their companies. Students took online tests and appeared in the
interviews for software engineers, executive marketing and relationship officers.
After assessing skill sets of the students, the HRD heads informed that the selected
students would be absorbed mostly in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Noida.
Chairman Indo Global Colleges S.K. Singla said placements had been offered to 78
students who would be given packages ranging from Rs 1.5 to 2.5 lakh per annum.
Head Training and Placement Lt Col R.S. Khera informed the students that Amanpreet
Sethi from Indo Global had received four placement offers.
Eight get jobs at campus interview

Symposium on Punjab crafts inaugurated

A symposium on Punjab Crafts and Craftsmanship, which is part of the ongoing Patial
heritage festival was inaugurated at the Senate hall of Punjabi University here today.
The logo of the symposium was ‘two hands implying that they were two hands of
the patent and hard working craftsman who gave beautiful shapes to raw material.
Director of the symposium B.N Goswami while speaking on the occasion, said that
although he himself was not a craftsman yet he had ample respect for the tribe. Head
of the Fine Arts Department and convener of the symposium Saroj Rani said that
efforts should be made to encourage artists and craftsmen in the state.

14. Earlier, in a show held late yesterday, Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty enthralled the audience
with a vocal classical recital. For long Pt Ajoy Charkarbarty of the Patiala Gharana, is
in lineage of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and is a discipline of Munawer Ali Khan, youngest
son of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Chakrabarti, who has been awarded the prestigious
Sangeet Natak Academy award in 2000, kept the audience mesmerised with his
performances.
2-day international seminar in Patiala

A two-day International Seminar on "coping with violence in today's world" will be
organised by the Department of Social Work, Punjabi University, in collaboration with
the North West Regional Centre of the ICSSR, Chandigarh, on February 22 and 23 in
the Senate Hall of the Punjabi University.
Vice chancellor of the Punjabi University shall preside over the function. Former
principal director of UNESCO Yogesh Atal would be the key note speaker while
professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice System, University of Texas, USA
R.N.Singh would deliver the inaugural address.
Director of International and Scientific Cooperation Imam Komeini International
University, Qazvin, Iran would be the Guest of Honour. The Seminar would be
attended by over 100 delegates from India and abroad representing seven foreign
universities and 29 Indian universities.
Exchange programme to be annual feature: VC

In a discussion held to review the progress of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
signed between the two institutions, Punjabi University, Patiala and Kutztown
University, Pennsylvania, USA, it was decided that both the universities would
continue to pursue the student exchange activity and it would become permanent
yearly feature for Business Studies.
Addressing a press conference here today vice chancellor Punjabi University Swarn
Singh Boparai said that considering the increased cross cultural understanding could
be best attained through an international academic and culture immersion experience
both universities had agreed to cooperate and establish a study abroad exchange
programme.
He said that the students of MBA second year course from Punjab School of
Management Studies, Patiala, and University School of Business Studies, Talwandi

15. Sabo, would visit Kutztown University during March 4 to March 24, 2007.
President Kutztown University F. Javier Cevallos said that both the universities would
promote joint research through linking faculty members from both sides in the
common areas of interest followed by visits of faculty members to the campuses one
each side. He further said that both the universities would also continue exploring the
other areas of mutual interest.
