2. Vienna as seen from Schönbrunn Palace Gardens
It was in Vienna – inspirer of the famous "Viennese waltzes" – that in August 1889, Johann
Strauss II wrote the one that the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef, on the occasion of his visit to
Germany, gave to the German Kaiser Wilhelm II as a "toast of friendship“ from Austria to
Germany.
Originally called "Mano a mano" (Hand in Hand), later the composition was named
Emperor Waltz.
3. It’s also in the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens that are offered grandiose spectacles with the music of
Johann Strauss II played by worldwide famous orchestras.
4. Johann Strauss II, one of the illustrious sons of Austria and great composer of the Romantic
Age, was responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the nineteenth century.
This monument in his honor is located at the entrance of City Park - Stadtpark.

Mahler, etc.. - is all music and romanticism, seeming to extend the sides of Burgtheater

hall and home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

16. Since 1981, every year from the end of June to mid-July takes place the Jazz in Vienna festival, in
its Ancient Roman Theatre, a historic monument built in the first century
of Christian era where is now Vienna.
17. Schönbrunn Palace, one of the major historical and cultural monuments in Austria, was built
between 1638 and 1643, and severely damaged during the second Turkish siege of Vienna. The
reconstruction and expansion to its current form was in made in 1743, under Empress Maria Theresa.
19. Gloriette of the Baroque palace (Schönbrunn) that was the summer residence of the Austrian Imperial
family since the mid-eighteenth century until the end of World War II, also being a cultural and political
center of the Habsburg empire. Here lived until her marriage to the future Emperor of Brazil D. Pedro I, the
Archduchess Leopoldina of Habsburg, who had such a great role in the independence of Brazil.
20. The complex Belvedere composed by two palaces – upper and lower – and gardens, built for
Prince Eugene of Savoy – general, philosopher and art lover.

highlight one among all. I opted for the one which is called Earthly Hall, where the sculptures are
the main feature - beautiful, like all the others of the Palace.
22. Gardens link the upper palace to the lower with motifs defined in a gentle gradient and they include
decorative fountains and cascades, Baroque sculptures and majestic wrought iron gates.

Savoy supported by lions.
24. The Upper Palace, Baroque, houses the world's largest collection of the Austrian Gustav Klimt including the legendary painting The Kiss - and also other works by Schiele and Kokoschka,

to Parliamentary Republic. This building of neoclassical facade, from the early twentieth century,

there is a copy of the famous Milanese mosaic mural by Leonardo da Vinci - "The Last Supper".

Gothic style between 1304 and 1433, while its interior has acquired a baroque tendency. Its famous
bell, "Pummerin", weighing not less than 21 tons, suffered considerable damage in World War II.

sitting on a cloud.
35. Although Vienna is permeated with flower gardens that would deserve a compilation
with only this kind of beauty, one cannot walk by the busy streets of the city without find
a well cared flower shop on the sidewalk.
36. Kohlmarkt – street of great luxury in Vienna, begins in St. Michael's Square and
displays a high density of jewelers and international brands stores.
37. It is on Kohlmarkt Street the most famous pastry shop in Vienna - the Café Demel, in which the
halls are always full of visitors to taste the sweet temptations and the special coffee with cream.
38. Also in the central part of the city lies the Hotel Sacher, famous due to the luxury, the elegance and
the sophistication of its physical structure and high standard of services, while its very famous
Sachertorte constitutes one of the greatest gustatory pleasures that one can find in Vienna.
39. Restaurant Steirereck, in Stadtpark, is on the list of the 5 best restaurants in Vienna
and also on that one that elected the top 50 worldwide.
40. Vienna still preserves the medieval Grinzing - today a neighborhood far from the city - with its
houses called Heurigen (traditional cafes with live music - folk in general - serving wine and grape
juice), since long a big attraction for tourists.
In the Grinzing’s village-cemetery are buried Gustav Mahler and his widow, Alma Mahler-Werfel.
41. "Wheels of pleasure", with chairs suspended from large wooden rings and driven by strong men,
may have originated in Bulgaria in the seventeenth century. Wiener Riesenrad in Prater Park,
was built in 1897, 65m tall, for the Golden Jubilee of Franz Josef I of Austria. Damaged during
the First World War, it was rebuilt with 15 cabins.
42. Ankeruhr is a large clock and music box that links two buildings in the center of Vienna, and reveals
itself as one of the most outstanding works of Art Nouveau. It's a popular tourist attraction because it
shows historical figures at every full hour - Marcus Aurelius, Haydn, Maria Theresa, and others.
43. But Vienna, cosmopolitan city that it is, besides all its tradition, is also adapted to the
technologies of contemporary life, with modern bridges, freeways, wide avenues and
buildings of bold architecture.
44. Not only Vienna but the Danube itself was modernized, now framed by the city’s fey lighting, and the
walkway of illuminated private and tour boats, and even the refinement of the new glazed restaurant
from where much of the beauty of the river and the city is unveiled.
45. Today, the youth brings to the banks of Danube a relaxed coexistence that is slowly replacing
the excessive formalism so characteristic in the European continent. The change is for better
or worse? I bet on a tie.

Leopold Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, and also a lively variety of restaurants, cafes and
bars that make the neighborhood one of the best meeting places in the city. .. and beyond.
49. MuseumsQuartier – is the eighth largest cultural area in the world. The area has originated
from the stables of the Hofburg Imperial Palace and, besides being home to museums, houses
different segments towards Art in general and socio-cultural conviviality.
50. MUMOK "MUseum MOderner Kunst" – is another museum located in the MuseumsQuartier.
The Mumok has a collection of 7,000 works of modern and contemporary art, including major works
by Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Joseph Beuys, Nam June Paik, and many others.
51. The Leopold Museum, located at the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, is houses one of the largest
collections of modern Austrian art, featuring artists such as Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Oskar
Kokoschka and Richard Gerstl. It contains the largest collection of Egon Schiele in the world.

Foi na cidade de Viena – inspiradora das famosas “valsas vienenses” – que em agosto de 1889 Johann Strauss II compôs aquela que o imperador austríaco Franz Josef, por ocasião de sua visita à Alemanha, ofereceu ao Kaiser germânico Wilhelm II como um "brinde de amizade“ da Áustria à Alemanha.
Originalmente chamada “Mano a mano” (Hand in Hand), mais tarde a composição recebeu o nome Valsa do Imperador.
É também nos Jardins do Palácio Schönbrunn que grandiosos espetáculos são oferecidos com música de Johann Strauss II, interpretada por orquestras de fama mundial.
Johann Strauss II, um dos filhos ilustres da Áustria e grande compositor da Era Romântica, foi o responsável pela popularidade da valsa em Viena durante o século XIX. Este monumento em sua homenagem se encontra na entrada do Parque da Cidade – Stadtpark.
Viena – capital rósea da terra natal não só de Strauss como de Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Mahler, etc. – é toda música e romantismo, parecendo estender as laterais do Burgtheater para acolher de braços abertos seus visitantes.

A Wiener Musikverein, comumente abreviada para Musikverein, é uma sala de concertos e sede da Orquestra Filarmônica de Viena.
Outro importante evento anual acontece no salão da Musikverein: Vienna Philharmonic Ball.
Desde 1981, todos os anos do fim do mês de junho a meados do mês de julho, acontece o festival de Jazz em Viena em seu Teatro Antigo Romano, monumento histórico edificado em várias etapas no século I da era cristã onde hoje é Viena.
O Palácio de Schönbrunn, outro dos principais monumentos históricos e culturais da Áustria, foi construído entre 1638 e 1643, e severamente danificado durante o segundo cerco turco a Viena. A reconstrução e expansão para sua forma atual se deu em 1743, no império de Maria Teresa.
Gloriette do palácio barroco que foi residência de verão da família imperial austríaca desde meados do século XVIII até ao final da Segunda Guerra Mundial, constituindo um centro cultural e político do império Habsburgo. Aqui viveu até seu casamento com o futuro imperador brasileiro Pedro I a arquiduquesa D. Leopoldina de Habsburgo, que teve tão grande papel na independência do Brasil.
É tanta beleza em pintura artística e também decorativa arquitetonicamente, que não se pode destacar uma entre todas. Optei pelo Hall chamado de Sala Terrena, onde o destaque são as esculturas – belíssimas, como todas as demais do palácio.
Jardins ligam o palácio superior ao inferior com motivos definidos em um gradiente suave e incluem fontes decorativas em camadas e cascatas, esculturas barrocas e majestosos portões de ferro forjado.
O portão principal para o Belvedere Superior, com os brasões dos Príncipes de Sabóia apoiados por leões.
O Palácio Superior, barroco, abriga a maior coleção do mundo do austríaco Gustav Klimt – que inclui a pintura do lendário “O beijo” - e outras obras dos também austríacos Schiele e Kokoschka.
Suntuoso como um palácio, é o edifício do Parlamento de Viena.
Findos os Impérios de que a Áustria fez parte, o regime do país passou a República Parlamentar. Esse edifício de fachada neoclássica, do início do século XX, abriga hoje 4 ministérios.
Minoritenkirche - fundada em 1275, é uma das primeiras igrejas góticas da Áustria, e nela está uma cópia do famoso mosaico de Leonardo da Vinci, "A Última Ceia".
Catedral de Sto. Estevão, exemplo da arquitetura do século XII, foi renovada no estilo gótico entre 1304 e 1433, enquanto seu interior adquiriu uma tendência barroca. Seu famoso sino, "Pummerin", pesando não menos que 21 toneladas, sofreu consideráveis danos na Segunda Guerra Mundial.
A Igreja Votiva, neogótica, inspirada no estilo gótico da Catedral de Colônia, foi construída no fim do século XIX em agradecimento à milagrosa sobrevivência do imperador Francisco José ao atentado de seu assassinato.
Igrejas, todas elas ostentam interiores artisticamente ricos, mas o da Igreja de São Pedro, que fica próximo à central rua Graben, é considerado ainda mais divino e impactante para quem a visita.
Outra das importantes igrejas da cidade – a de São Francisco de Assis – situa-se bem a uma das margens do Danúbio, que se torna mesmo azul na hora mágica do anoitecer em Viena.
Do quotidiano de Viena, Graben é rua comercial pulsante no coração do centro da cidade em que se destaca uma famosa coluna. A rua tem origem romana e é cercada de lugares de estilo típico, tradição elegante e prazeres gourmet.
“Pestsäule” – Coluna da Praga - foi o pagamento de promessa do Imperador Leopoldo I, que rezou pelo fim da epidemia da peste de 1679, motivo da perda de 100.000 vidas.
A escultura é composta de anjos, figuras representando a fé, um imperador rezando, encimada pela Santíssima Trindade sentada em uma nuvem.
Apesar de Viena ser permeada de jardins floridos que ensejaria uma compilação só dessas suas belezas, não se anda nas ruas movimentadas da cidade sem que se encontre uma bem cuidada floricultura na calçada.
Kohlmarkt – rua de grande luxo em Viena que nasce na Michaelerplatz e exibe uma alta densidade de joalherias e lojas de grifes internacionais.
É na rua Kohlmarkt que se encontra a mais famosa doceira de Viena – o Café Demel, cujos salões estão sempre lotados de visitantes para degustar as tentações doces e o especial café com creme.
Também na zona central da cidade situa-se o Hotel Sacher, cuja fama se deve ao luxo, ao requinte e à sofisticação de sua estrutura física e alto padrão de serviços, enquanto sua famosíssima Sachertorte constitui-se em um dos maiores prazeres gustativos que se pode encontrar em Viena.

Viena continua preservando a medieval Grinzing – hoje um bairro distante da cidade – com suas casas denominadas Heurigen (cafés tradicionais com música – em geral folk – ao vivo que servem vinho e suco de uva), de há muito grande atração para os turistas.
Na aldeia-cemitério de Grinzing, estão enterrados Gustav Mahler e sua viúva, Alma Mahler-Werfel.
"Rodas de prazer", com cadeiras suspensas a partir de grandes anéis de madeira e impulsionadas por homens fortes, podem ter se originado na Bulgária do século XVII. Wiener Riesenrad, no parque Prater, foi construída em 1897 para o Jubileu de Ouro de Franz Josef I da Áustria, com 65 m de altura. Danificada pela primeira grande guerra, foi reconstruída com 15 cabines.
Ankeruhr é relógio e caixa de música que une dois edifícios no centro de Viena, e se revela como uma das obras mais marcantes da Art Nouveau. É grande atração turística popular porque mostra figuras históricas em toda hora cheia – Marco Aurélio, Haydn, Maria Teresa, e outras.
Mas Viena, cidade cosmopolita que é, ao lado de toda sua tradição está também adaptada à tecnologia da vida moderna, com pontes modernas, vias expressas, largas avenidas, e edifícios em arrojada arquitetura.
Não só Viena como o próprio Danúbio se modernizou, agora emoldurado pela iluminação feérica da cidade, e passarela de iluminadas embarcações particulares ou de passeios turísticos, e ainda o requinte do novo restaurante envidraçado de onde se descortina grande parte da beleza do rio e da cidade.
Hoje, a juventude levou para as margens do Danúbio a convivência descontraída que, aos poucos, foi substituindo o formalismo excessivo das relações tão próprias do continente europeu. A mudança foi melhor, ou pior? Aposto no empate.
Contraste parece ser uma das característica da vida moderna: a tradicionalíssima Ópera de Viena, continente do mais puro alimento para a alma - a música, aqui como pano de fundo para uma atividade ligada à cultura física.
Realmente, os jovens descobriram como desfrutar da cidade de formas inovadoras, e até trouxeram para o Danúbio suas velejantes cores. Todavia, como acontece com a maioria na juventude européia, os jovens desfrutam também – e muito – de todo acréscimo cultural que museus lhes facultam.
Extasiante Complexo de arte, perto do Palácio Imperial, compreende museus de renome, como o Museu Leopold, o Museu de Arte Contemporânea, e também uma animada variedade de restaurantes, cafés e bares que fazem deste bairro um dos melhores pontos de encontro da cidade... e não só.
Museumsquartier – é a oitava maior área cultural no mundo. O espaço tem origem nos estábulos do Palácio Imperial Hofburg, e além de museus abriga diversos segmentos dirigidos à Arte em geral e convivência sócio-cultural.
MUMOK "MUseum MOderner Kunst" – é o outro museu situado no Museumsquartier.
