  3. 3. What is the meaning of Leadership? Art or process to influence people to work voluntarily and enthusiastically to achieve the goals of the group

Leader’s Skills <ul><li>In order to be a good situational leader, a manager must have three skills: </li></ul><ul><li>Diagnosis, the ability to determine the needs of employees according to their development level with the task at hand </li></ul><ul><li>Flexibility, the ability to apply one of four different styles, depending on the diagnosis, and </li></ul><ul><li>Contracting, the ability to work with employee to set the parameters of their interaction </li></ul>

History <ul><li>About 500 years A.C Confucius traveled to China trying to persuade several leaders about how to lead with most efficacious way, Confucius think that the leaders have to be benevolent, human, fair and moderate. </li></ul><ul><li>200 years later, the first emperor of China, Shih Huang answered Confucius in a conclusive way: he buried 460 monks alive, and that until the neck to be beheaded later. </li></ul><ul><li>However, a determining research completed by R.M. Stogdill in 1948, and enlarged and revised 25 years later, proves that a group does not exist of features that define the leadership.   6. 6. Factors of Leaderships <ul><li>There are four major factors in leadership </li></ul><ul><li>Follower Different people require different styles of leadership. For example, a new hire requires more supervision than an experienced employee </li></ul><ul><li>Leader You must have a honest understanding of who you are, what you know, and what you can do. Also, note that it is the followers, not the leader who determines if a leader is successful </li></ul><ul><li>Communication </li></ul><ul><li>You lead through two-way communication. Much of it is nonverbal </li></ul><ul><li>Situation All are different. What you do in one situation will not always work in another. You must use your judgment to decide the best course of action and the leadership style needed for each situation </li></ul>

  10. 10. Inspirer This component talks about the weird capacity to inspire followers to apply all yours aptitudes for a project. The leaders can inspire loyalty, devotion and an intense wish by reach the solicited goals.
  11. 11. Leadership Styles Leadership style is the manner and approach of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people.
  12. 12. The three styles of leadership There are normally three styles of leadership: (U.S. Army Handbook , 1973 ) Authoritarian or autocratic Participative or democratic Delegative or Free Reign
  13. 13. Authoritarian (autocratic) This style is used when the leader tells her employees what he wants done and how he wants it done, without getting the advice of her followers. Some of the appropriate conditions to use it is when you have all the information to solve the problem, you are short on time, and your employees are well motivated.
  14. 14. Participative (democratic) This type of style involves the leader including one or more employees in on the decision making process (determining what to do and how to do it). However, the leader maintains the final decision making authority. Using this style is not a sign of weakness, rather it is a sign of strength that your employees will respect.
  15. 15. Delegative (free reign) In this style, the leader allows the employees to make the decision. However, the leader is still responsible for the decisions that are made. This is used when employees are able to analyze the situation and determine what needs to be done and how to do it. You cannot do everything! You must set priorities and delegate certain tasks
  16. 16. Although good leaders use all three styles, with one of them normally dominate, bad leaders tend to stick with one style.
  17. 17. Forces A good leader uses all three styles, depending on what forces are involved between the followers, the leader, and the situation. Using all three: Telling your employees that a procedure is not working correctly and a new one must be established (authoritarian). Asking for their ideas and input on creating a new procedure (participative). Delegating tasks in order to implement the new procedure (delegative).

Most people, working alone, do not finish what they start. </li></ul><ul><li>The ability to finish challenging projects is the secret to being a winner. </li></ul>Motivation

With a common goal, team members support each other until success is achieved. In this environment, others do care and team members are needed for achieving the goal. </li></ul>

These theories are: </li></ul><ul><li>The Trait Theory :Some personality traits may lead people naturally into leadership roles. </li></ul><ul><li>The Great Events Theory: I mportant event may cause a person to rise to the occasion, which brings out extraordinary leadership qualities in an ordinary person. </li></ul><ul><li>Transformational Leadership Theory: People can choose to become leaders and learn leadership skills. It is the most widely accepted theory today and the premise on which this guide is based. </li></ul>

The Two Most Important Keys to Effective Leadership <ul><li>A study examined over 75 key components of employee satisfaction found t he two most important keys to effective leadership: </li></ul><ul><li>Trust and confidence in top leadership was the single most reliable predictor of employee satisfaction in an organization. </li></ul><ul><li>Effective communication by leadership in three critical areas was the key to winning organizational trust and confidence: </li></ul>
  22. 22. Using the right one for your situation <ul><li>From Mahatma Gandhi to Jack Welch and Martin Luther King to Rudolph Giuliani, there are as many leadership styles as there are leaders. Fortunately, business people and psychologists have developed useful, shorthand ways of describing the main leadership styles that can help aspiring leaders to understand and adapt their own styles and leadership impact. </li></ul><ul><li>Whether you are managing a team at work, captaining your sports team or leading a major corporation, you leadership style is crucial to your success. Consciously, or subconsciously, you will no doubt use some of the leadership styles featured, at least some of the time. Understanding these leadership styles and their impact can help you develop and adapt your own leadership style and so help you become a more effective leader. </li></ul>
  23. 23. Conclusions In conclusion we find that a leader is who directs and has an influence to a group of people. Features or qualities of a good leader: Leader contributes towards future goals. He admits the contribution of other members and he motivates them. Leaders can inspire loyalty. Leaders knows how to deal with any trouble A good leader doesn’t state in one leadership styles, he or she uses the three styles of leadership for success.
