The Westin Verdelago Resort Club House was built in 2011 in Castro Marim, Portugal. It has a gross building area of 500 square meters and was developed by Promovalor SGPS SA for the Verdelago Resort. The club house was designed to offer guests a variety of amenities and atmospheres throughout the day, including an all-day restaurant, outdoor pool and lounge areas. The single-story design uses vaulted ceilings, organic forms and materials inspired by Mediterranean and North African architecture to create an intimate space that blends with the natural setting.

The Verdelago Resort is located in the
Algarve, at Altura beach (Castro Marim),
15 Km from the Spanish border and 50
Km from the city of Faro. It occupies an
area of about 100 hectares with a prime
seafront of 1.5 Km with direct access to
Praia Verde. The master plan includes
a 5-star Westin hotel, in addition to a
touristic village with 340 housing units,
an 18-hole golf course and all the typical
amenities of large family resort.
Within the resort, PROMONTORIO
was invited to submit a design proposal
for the pool club. The key objective
of this infra-structure is to offer
guests a rich and enduring experience
throughout the day tby offering a series
of different atmospheres and amenities.
The programme comprises an all-day
restaurant and buffet with different group
settings and private dining areas, besides
servicing for the various outdoor areas,
which include, besides the swimming
pool, terrace sitting, day-beds, jacuzzi,
bar, fireplace and chill-out coves.
Without falling into pastiche, our aim
was to subtly recreate the ambiance of
early 1970s experimental, yet glamorous,
designs for tourism industry, by evoking
characteristic elements, motifs, textures,
patterns and colours. The vaulted
single-storey volume, serpentines in the
terrain with the typical organic fluidity
of Mediterranean and North African
vernacular architecture. With its roof
covered in moss that cascades to the
terraced facades, its riad-like interiors are
made of rough stucco, rounded corners
and soft material transitions coalescing
the intimate scale and privacy of the club
experience with the stunning natural
setting of the resort.
