1. In the Beginning
I have one page on my iPad. All of the folders you see here were on the
device when I received it from the District.
2. A Pile of
Books
The following images are what my
new iPad pages look like after
many hours of searching and
downloading book apps. There
are three new pages filled with
digital books. As you can see, the
next step is organization.
I want to organize these digital
resources into categorized folders
so the children can find books
more easily. I will categorize them
by the following themes:
Alphabet Books, Counting Books,
Fairy Tales, Farms, Animals, and
Fall. I would like to bring all of the
digital book folders onto one
page. There will be a few left over
apps that I downloaded that are
not books or do not fit in the
above themes . Once I organize
the books, I will place the extra
apps on a separate page.
3. The Digital Library Page
Here’s how my iPad looks after I
organized the ebooks into
categorized folders. Once I
organized these folders I reviewed
my book selections and ended up
weeding a few out due to pop up
advertisements. Also, some turned
out to be more like games than
books, so I deleted those. Finally I
discovered how to add Tumble Book
iPad books onto my desktop, and
then organized those Tumble Books
in the appropriate folders. I
simplified the names of the folders
so they were more identifiable for
young children. I organized the files
alphabetically to model ABC order
for the Kindergartens.
7. Gradual Introduction
Weeks 1 & 2
For the first couple of weeks,
Kindergartens will explore
books within two folders, ABC
and Animals. By introducing
the books gradually, students
will spend more time in each
individual folder and will get
to know the collection. As
students become acquainted
with the collection it becomes
easier for them to navigate
through the book folders in
the future.
8. Week 3
In week three, I will add
the 123 folder to the class
digital book page.
9. Week 4
• In week four, I will add
the Fairy Tales folder.
10. The Final Product:
Week 5 Term One Kindergarten Library
In week five, I will add the
last two folders, Fall and
Farms. Now all of the first
term folders are on the
iPad for children to leisure
read.
Over time, I will edit and
update the digital
classroom library to keep it
interesting and current
with classroom learning
themes.
