On the following slide there is a list of post application defects. In
groups, find the causes and remedies of each defect.
Points are scored for each correct cause and remedy – bonus points
are available.

• Runs, sags and curtains
• Blistering
• Orange peel
• Misses
• Wrinkling
• Brush marks
• Grinning
• Skid marks
• Paint on adjacent surfaces

Common post-application defects (answers)
• Cissing: Grease/polish. Sand down and repaint.
• Runs, sags and curtains: Paint too thin or think. Sand down and
repaint.
• Blistering: Painting in direct sunlight. Remove with heat gun.
• Orange peel: Caused by heavy rollering. Lay off after application.
• Misses: Areas missed. Repaint when dry.
• Wrinkling: Previous coating not fully dry. Sand down and repaint.
• Brush marks: Poor application. Sand down and repaint.
• Grinning: Poor coverage. Recoat when dry.
• Skid marks: Heavy rollering. Lay off after application.
• Paint on adjacent surfaces: Poor workmanship. Take care when
applying paint.
