In 1928-29, on the occasion of the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, the square was greatly urbanized and lot of changes happened in these times. Most of the statues located on the square were installed here just in 1928

  1. 1. Plaça de Catalunya is regarded as the central most point of Barcelona city centre and, for many travelers, will also be the main transport hub for their journey. This is probably the most famous square in Barcelona. It is situated at the top of the Ramblas and has a large pedestrianized section at its centre. The plaza was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII in 1927 and covers an area of 5 hectares

  3. 3. On one corner of the plaza the monument to the president of the Catalan Government, Francesc Macià (1859–1933)

  7. 7. Pomegranate (Punica granatum) The site was formerly an open piece of land located in front of the gates to the walled city. The architects Pere Falqués, Puig i Cadafalch and Francesc de Paula Nebot were involved in its planning, and it also features sculptures by such well-known artists as Clarà and Llimona. When the city was preparing for the 1929 International Exhibition, some of new Barcelona's most luxurious hotels, bars and theatres were built around the plaza and most of the statues located on the square were installed here just in 1928
  8. 8. There are six sculptural groups around the plaza: they represent the four Catalan capital cities, Wisdom and Labour
