Gondar is the 17th-century capital of Ethiopia.
Bordering Sudan and located on the northern shore
of Lake Tana, it is one of the prominent historical
areas in Ethiopia.
Gondar is a town founded in 1636 by the great
Emperor Fassiladas, serving as the royal capital of
Ethiopia for over 230 years. The Gondarine period is
considered to be the third major dynasty after the
Axumite and Zagwe dynasties. The dynasty is
historically important for the renaissance king's
mobile camp and the introduction of a permanent
capital.

Zone of the Amhara Region,
Gondar is north of Tana Lake
on the Lesser Angereb River
and southwest of the Simien
Mountains. It has an elevation
of 2133 meters above sea
level.
Gondar previously served as
the capital of the Ethiopian
Empire. The city has been
referred to as the "Camelot of
Africa" due to the presence of
several royal castles.

ceremony is an integral
part of their social and
cultural life. An invitation
to attend a coffee
ceremony is considered a
mark of friendship or
respect and is an
excellent example of
Ethiopian hospitality.
Performing the ceremony
is almost obligatory in the
presence of a visitor,
whatever the time of day.
Don't be in a hurry though
- this special ceremony
can take a few hours. So
sit back and enjoy
because it is most
definitely not instant.
