A Degree Audit Report is an electronic
“check sheet” which merges your
program’s degree requirements, your
current schedule and your Penn State
transcript to create an individualized
report which you and your adviser will use
to plan and track your academic progress.

Editor's Notes
SLIDE 2 5 minutes: Introduce advisors Talk about the role of advising at PSU - Different relationship between school counselor and professional advisor - Responsibilities of advisors are different, as is the advises responsibilities Advisors: Understanding policies, procedures and processes of the university. Assist students with exploring academic goals such as majors, minors, theme tracks, concurrent majors, etc. and related resources to help students achieve these goals. We don’t know everything, but can usually point the student in the appropriate direction. In practice this means we will assistance with scheduling, understanding a degree audit (one size does not fit all), filling out paperwork, maximizing educational opportunities such as tutoring and study abroad, internships, etc. We will help in any way that we can, but having said that, there are also responsibilities that you have as students. Advisees: To get the most of our advising meetings you need to come prepared. After you schedule an appointment make sure that you write down any questions you have, review degree audit, do research on possible minors, concurrent majors, and study abroad, etc. to the extent that you can. Think about what it is you want to get out of your education experience and we can help you achieve these goals and explore new ones as well. Appointments : How to make appointment call or stop in advising center office – NO EMAIL Keeping appointments, or be respectful and cancel so another student can have time slot Be prepared, as mentioned above Email: Use PSU ID and access account – secure email, expected method of communication Understand we have more than one student to advise…allow sufficient time for us to respond depending on time of year Appropriate subjects to cover…if too extensive will need to make appointment
SLIDE 3: Review what a degree audit is and how it is beneficial to students -maps your degree requirements against your academic transcript -assists in academic planning and appropriate course scheduling -audit is one piece of the puzzle: advising, current schedule, program requirements, transcript file
You can run an alternative (“what if”) audit on any major, option or minor offered at PSU
