2. GENERATION 68’ MOVEMENT
• The Generation 68’ Movement was characterized by radicalism and it was
about quick changes. At the same time, a secularization of society was
taking place in the way that there were movements and resistance
movements happening.Young people, it can also be claimed, has as a result
of the generation of 68, had a greater access to wealth and influence.
• Inspired by
• the student uprising in Paris in May 1968,
• the Cultural revolution in China,
• the decolonization processes,
• their criticism of the US involvement in Vietnam

3. • Criticism against the system of higher
education. Occupation of the student
unions’ houses; Kårhusockupationen
• Inspired by the May revolts in France
• In 1965, a fight broke out in the inner
city. Thousands of Mods, young people
inspired by a subculture, gathered at
Hötorget in downtown Stockholm. It was
an expression of protest against U.S.
warfare in Vietnam. Riots, fires and
windows crushing erupted when police
tried to disperse the crowd.

were held in Båstad May 3,
1968 during the match
between Sweden and Rhodesia
in the Davis Cup. The young
people who came were there
to demonstrate against
apartheid and racism in South
Africa, including Rhodesia.

subcultures during this time
period, like the Flower-Power
Movement in which they lived
for brand new ideals of
liberalism concerning drugs
and also a freer view of sex.
• This resulted in the creation of
many liberal trends in society,
like anarchism which
interested some of the more
radical youth.
